Kibitzer's Corner
Mar-26-05  Karpova: a well-fought game!
Feb-19-06  MorphyMatt: Yeah, Kasparov-Spassky, hmmm... I thought they would be exciting.
Mar-11-16  rmraovich: Seem neither player was gonna take a wild chance. Both played very solid and without much risk, which led to a quick draw...
Aug-26-17  ZonszeinP: Black is a pawn up but
..offered a draw
Aug-26-17  Howard: For the record, Kasparov lost only one game at Niksic 1983....and that was to Spassky. Naturally, that game probably had very little to do with the short, formality-type of draw in this game.
Aug-27-17  ZonszeinP: Kasparov wrote that he accepted the draw offer here in order to avoid the worse
Aug-27-17  RookFile: Well, it's smart because White's a pawn down. White has a development lead and prospects of better dark square control but there is nothing concrete. I'm sure there were also team considerations involved, with it likely being that Kasparov's team would win the match as long as he didn't lose this game.
Aug-28-17  JPi: It's well know story that when it became clear he will not be back as World Champion, Spassky accepted quite easily draw even in a slightly better position. This of course didn't help in rating and his real level was surely up when he came to play again Fischer in 92.

perfidious: There was precedent in this brevity with White by Kasparov in a team event: Kasparov vs Sosonko, 1982.
Aug-28-17  ZonszeinP: There were certainly "team considerations involved".. USSR beat France 3,5 to 0,5 Which is better than an eventual 3-1......
