Feb-22-21  saturn2: 27...Rd1+ 28. Rxd1 Qxc6 and white can only delay the end. For example by 29. Qxg6+ hxg6 30. f3 Qxf3
Feb-22-21  saturn2: 24.Bxa7 was desperado in an already lost position. If it was not blitz why did white play on so long?
Feb-22-21  saturn2: <agb2002> 61...d5 prepares a passer on the queenside whilst the black king controlls the white pawns.
Feb-22-21  murkia: Probably easier as a Monday puzzle knowing that a heavy sacrifice is required.
Feb-22-21  Brenin: This one took about five seconds last month, and one second this tlme, so something about me is improving!
Feb-22-21  et1: Decisive move is Qc2. Very easy ?
Feb-22-21  TheaN: I realized a bit too late this is a repeat; bit moot at that given it's a Wednesday puzzle going to the Monday. Typically, I'd say this is a Tuesday so they're almost there.
Feb-22-21  AlicesKnight: See previous comment of January 20th - a bit soon to repeat?
Feb-22-21  awfulhangover: Difficult Monday after an easy Sunday. I like this. In a real game nobody tell you that there is a puzzle position and certainly not if it is very easy or insane.
Feb-22-21  zb2cr: I saw this, but with the relatively long line, I figured it was too long-drawn out for a Monday. I couldn't find anything other than the game solution, though, so I said, "what the heck" and turned out to be right.
Feb-22-21  Refused: Again randomly recycling last month's puzzles.
Feb-22-21  Willem Wallekers: In a real game you know which day of the week it is.
Feb-22-21  TheTamale: re: <Willem Wallekers>'s comment: A month ago, this was a Wednesday puzzle; today it's being used as a Monday puzzle. Guess they figure that since we recently saw the answer, the puzzle would now be "Very Easy." In my case, they miscalculated.
Feb-22-21  Shrinarayanan: This shouldn't be a Monday Puzzle.

"Slip sliding away"
Feb-22-21  RandomVisitor: The Stockfish solution would be to try 29.f3 in the line as played.

27...Rd1+ is better than the other playable choice, 27...Bb2.

gawain: This was new to me, as I was otherwise occupied on 20 January and did not look at the puzzle that day. Struggled a bit with it today then set it aside for a short time. As so often happens, refreshed eyes saw the solution.
Feb-22-21  ClassZPlaya: Only gave myself partial credit today as I came up with 27 ... Rd1+; 28. Rxd1 Qxc6; 29. f3 Qxf3 missing 30. Qb8+ Kg7; 31. Bh6+ Kxh6; 32. Qf4+

ajk68: <saturn2: 24.Bxa7 was desperado in an already lost position. If it was not blitz why did white play on so long?> After Bxa7 the game is equal.

The mistake was 27. Be3 instead of going into the repetition.

ajk68: 29. f3 was necessary to avoid complete annihilation. It is still losing but at least avoids mate.

29...Qxf3 30. Qb1+ Kg7 31. Bh6+ Kxh6 32. Qf4+ Qxf4. -+

Feb-22-21  Brenin: After 30 f3 it is much better for Black to play 30 ... Qc2 (as in the game) than the more natural-looking 30 ... Qxf3, which can be answered with 31 Bh6+ Kxh6 32 Qf4+ Qxf4 33 gxf4. Now Black, with 2B+4P vs R+3P, still has work to do, especially in view of the distant passed a-pawn. It should still be a win, but it's by no means automatic.
Feb-22-21  TheBish: <Refused: Again randomly recycling last month's puzzles.>

It would be better to randomly recycle previous puzzles from the same day of the week. Or pick a specific one from the past (preferably at least a year ago), as long as it's the same day of the week. This puzzle was a Wednesday puzzle ("medium/easy", not "very easy" as Monday's are labeled) just last month, January 20. Thirty-three (33) days ago. This runs the risk of scaring away novices, who may think "Wow, if this is 'very easy', maybe chess isn't the right game for me!"
