May-03-05  woodenbishop: Wow!! This is probably one of the very best games Benko ever played... though never again would he have the rare pleasure of defeating the magic man of chess.
May-04-05  whatthefat: A nice game by Benko. Keep in mind though that Tal was to withdraw from this candidates tournament early with kidney problems, which surely explains his rather flat play.

Benko was however also to score a win over Fischer in this tournament Benko vs Fischer, 1962 and using the same opening 1. g3 which is today known as Benko's Opening. Along with having Benko's Gambit named after himself, he can feel pretty proud!

Jun-29-05  Knight13: <This is probably one of the very best games Benko ever played...> I agree. Benko played well.
Jun-29-05  aw1988: Wow. This is a hellofagame.

ferrabraz: Competent win against an impacient Tal. Nothing specially nice, or wonderful. This system is usually used by white to avoid risks against stronger opponents
Dec-18-18  sudoplatov: Benko also beat Keres this tournament. I think it was his first win over Keres. It was in the next-to-last round. I heard rumors (unconfirmed) that Fischer later told Benko that he (Benko) should have thrown his game to Keres to keep Petrosian from winning. I doubt this as Fischer could have thrown his last-round game to Keres to create a tie at the top. Also, Keres could have avoided so many short draws with Petrosian (and others.)

Apparently there was an agreement amongst the Soviets (sans Korchnoi) but I don't know the internal party-politics related thereunto. (I'd think such an agreement should be off for the last round or cycle though.)
