Aug-12-04 | | biencastrojr: 28.....Rxe1+ 29. Rxe1 and black is helpless from various threats:
1. NxBb5 and Re7 or Qe7
2. If Black's 29th move is other than his rook it is under white knight's mercy |

Aug-12-04 | | weary willy: Game of the day? Why? |
Aug-12-04
 | | chessgames.com: This was rejected as a puzzle of the day, "White to play 26.Bxd6!" so we salvaged it for the sake of the pun. I can't recall with certainty, but I think the reason why we rejected it was because 26...Qxd6 was unclear. Comments on that? |
Aug-12-04 | | Cyphelium: <chessgames.com> After 26.- Qxd6 27. Qxd6 exd6 28. Ne4 white wins a pawn. The point is that 28.- Nxd5 29. Nxd6 Rxe1+ 30. Rxe1 Rc5 31. Nb7 wins. |
Aug-12-04 | | crafty: 26...♕xd6 27. ♕xd6 exd6 28. ♘e4 ♖ed8 29. ♘xf6+ ♔g7 30. ♘xh7 (eval 3.27; depth 15 ply; 150M nodes) |

Aug-12-04
 | | chessgames.com: Cyphelium, you are right, but what we both missed was Crafty's 30.Nxh7!! in the variation above, which snatches yet another pawn, leaving White three pawns to the good. I guess it's not so unclear after all. |
Aug-12-04 | | cuendillar: Since those puzzles are tactical, why not put crafty on them to ensure the best moves are found and that the tactic works in all variations. The you can post them as puzzle of the day. After all he seems to find the solution every time he tries... |
Aug-12-04 | | paulgrow: Is 20...Ba8 a better move? Keeps the pressure on the isolated d pawn (and b pawn) and may prevent a future Ne4. |
Aug-12-04 | | PawnBlock: <Paulgrow> I like that Ba8 idea. Don't quite see how it'd prevent Ne4 (unless you mean after clearing out of the d-pawn?), but the pressure on d4 is nice. It also frees up the useful b5 for one of those N's. |
Aug-12-04 | | paulgrow: <PawnBlock> I'm trying to work out a specific line after 20...♗a8. I think it prevents ♘e4 because in most lines ♘e4 makes the isolated d takable. (Is there such a word as takable?) It is a lousy postition for black regardless, but I would like to know if black can hold. |
Aug-12-04 | | kevin86: A few ideas on the puzzle (and other things).
I like the elegant finish with the knight forking the two rooks. Also,I have this idea:make "crafty" into a dog. Then he could sniff out the nuances in the puzzles-to check for their integrity. Right now,it seems to hunt down flaws after the fact. In short,he should not be a hunting dog,but a watchdog. |
Aug-12-04 | | white pawn: What if 22.Bh6 ? |
Aug-12-04 | | kevin86: <white pawn> 22...♘f5 looks good,stops the mate threat and attacks ♕ and ♗ |
Aug-12-04 | | white pawn: Alright alright... you win this time <kevin86>, but I'll get you... I'll get you yet! ô¿ô... j/k. Yeah, I don't know why I didn't see that, thanks. I figured there was a reason White didn't play it. |

Aug-12-04
 | | chessgames.com: <Since those puzzles are tactical, why not put crafty on them to ensure the best moves are found and that the tactic works in all variations.> Usually we do, but sometimes we are lazy. We need to automate it so that unclear puzzles, or puzzles with too many alternate solutions, are weeded out. |
