Sneaky: For a minute you think Morphy is in big trouble, but then--as usual--the designs for checkmate materializes out of thin air.
Dec-21-02  mdorothy: Yeah, you do get worried for a moment, but I think he had space and time on the kingside the whole time, and it was only a matter of moves before he used it to explode upon his opponent.
Jan-30-09  WhiteRook48: and a great game. 15. 0-0?? is bad. Never castle Kingside with an enemy rook on h-file

Yes; this was then a common form of offering odds known as 'pawn and move'.

Apr-08-20  Cheapo by the Dozen: The engine thinks 8 e5 was a horrible mistake.

OhioChessFan: The engine doesn't realize the f Pawn is missing. See its suggested 11. Nxf7 for details.

The glitch is producing some funny moments where it appears to accept the given odds but then again not.

Morphy vs James Thompson, 1859 [analysis]

Morphy played without his Queen's Knight.

Here...

...it allowed 13.Rad1 with the Rook gliding over the ghost of the knight on b1.

but here.

The ghost of the b1 Knight has manifested with the computer suggesting 14.Nd2.

MissScarlett: The point to understand is that there is no singular <it> in this regard; there are two parallel systems in play.

kingscrusher: 10...Rh6 is an absolutely brilliant move and only move to keep black in the game and with the advantage as well. Super accurate here.

It welcomes Nf7 under very favorable circumstances.

Sep-05-21  paulmorphy1969: Reverend John Owen confident that he had stood up to Mr. Staunton on so many occasions with that advantage, had the nerve to tell Morphy before the match that he would have wagered £ 1000 had he not been prevented by his ecclesiastical status. Morphy smiled kindly and confessed to his friend Mr. Edge that he was watching the match that Alter would only have skated two games. Morphy agreed on the second and sixth games, but won the other five. The result was + 5-0 = 2 in favor of Morphy. This game is the first game of the challenge giving the advantage of pawn and stretch lasting 2 hours and 30 minutes of which Owen used 2 hours and Morphy only 30 minutes
