Kibitzer's Corner
Apr-23-04  Vischer: It looks to me like white could have survived with {8.g3 gxf3 9.Qxf3 Qh4 10.Qg2
Apr-24-04  Vischer: Any Idea's on my theory, Crafty?
Apr-24-04  Vischer: I mean it would still be bad for white but it wouldn't be completely lost or checkmated.
Jul-10-04  radu stancu: Vischer, your line is perfectly playable up until 9... Qh4. Remember that white has played g3, so a queen at h4 would be attacked by the g3 pawn.
Jul-10-05  Knight13: This is a pretty good [old] Opening trap, man. Better than hxg4 would be 8. d3. That would let White survive.
Nov-07-05  refutor: 9. ...Qd7

Oct-06-07  gambitfan: The Alapin Gambit (Ruy Lopez Exchange) gives a superb miniature!

  sisyphus: <refutor: 9. ...Qd7> and White is still in a precarious position, for example 10.d3 Qh3 11.Qg3 Qh5 12. Nd2 Nf6 13.Nf3 Ng4, followed by ...O-O-O and ...Bc5.
Sep-03-23  Allderdice83: The old fishing pole trap. It's not as bad for White as the standard Berlin defense version, since Black doesn't have a light-squared bishop. White can get out with 8. Re1 Bc5 9. d3 gxf3 10. Qxf3 Qh4 11. Kf1. Stockfish 16 depth 20 has this as -0.50.

perfidious: White's seventh move is, curiously enough, a TN here.
