Feb-08-05  InspiredByMorphy: excellently played game by Greco. White could have kept the game going with 16.d3 I bet Greco would reply with 16. ...Bc5+ after which I believe black has a positional advantage.
May-03-08  BishoPair: yea excellent play by greco white shoulda kept his bishop instead his kingside is left defenceless
May-25-17  Yigor: 6. Ng4?? is a blunder; the correct move is 6. O-O. However, Greco's 6...Nxg4 is a mistake too; the immediate 6...d5! is an essentially stronger move.

Sally Simpson: "excellently played game by Greco."

No.

An excellent piece of instructional analysis by Greco. These were made up games by Greco. The mistakes were made on purpose to show you what could happen if you make them.

Now days the poor moves or other tries would be relegated to a note inside a stem game.

For example this position...

....also pops up here NN vs Greco, 1620 and Greco is showing us (rather than adding a note) in that game the joys of playing 6...Qh4+ instead of 6...Nxg4.

Another example is this position.

Greco looks at it Five times. Four games follow 5...exd5 and once what can happen if Black plays 5...Bb6. Instead of a note Greco shows the whole seven move game Greco vs NN, 1620

Today it would have been slipped into a note after move 5...exd4.

Something like.

"5...Bb6? 6.dxe5 Ng4 (if 6...Nxe5 7.Qd5 is winning. Greco circa 1620 and Stoklizki vs Maximow, 1973 ) 7.Bxf7+ Kxf7 8.Ng5+ White wins back the piece and has a clear advantage."

So should these 'games' be allowed on the DataBase?

Yes!

offramp: Greco would only need a quarter of an hour to catch up on opening theory and he'd be world champion again.
Sep-22-17  outplayer: 16.Qg4 is even a better defense for White when he minimizes the danger.
Dec-13-17  Christoforus Polacco: <offramp> Maybe not world's champion but very strong and eye-catching grandmaster similar to Vasyl Ivanchuk. And maybe not only 15 minutes but 2 years with Garri Kasparov as his coach :)
