Mar-14-04  ughaibu: Lawrence: What evaluations do your computers give the final position in this one?
Mar-14-04  crafty: 81. ... ♗g7 82. ♔d6 ♖e6+ 83. ♔c5 f5 84. ♕f2   (eval 3.52; depth 15 ply; 1000M nodes)
Mar-14-04  ughaibu: Crafty must be nuts, f5 is exactly the move that black doesn't want to play.
Mar-14-04  ughaibu: Vischer: What does Shredder say about the final position of this?
Mar-15-04  Lawrence: ughaibu, Fritz 8, Junior 8, and Hiarcs 9 like 81...Kg7 and give evals of +5.12, +6.16, and +5.05 respectively. Shredder 7.04 eval +4.86 and Rebel 12 +5.19.
Mar-15-04  TrueFiendish: The computer does not understand the concept of the fortress otherwise the evaluation would be = ...

tamar: I'm puzzled too. How do the two queens break through if Black stands pat? If for instance, black plays Bg7 and puts his rook on f5, then tempos with rook or bishop. Is there a sacrifice somewhere along the line? Curious too Zelcic (highest rating 2547) didn't play on.
Mar-15-04  ughaibu: Tamar: The result was a draw.

tamar: Aye Yie Yie. Misread the result as you inferred, ughaibu.
May-28-04  ughaibu: Catfriend: Nice to see you. Here's one for your collection.
Sep-09-04  Rowson: lol. i hate when this happens... but if you can't kill the king you can't win.
Jul-29-05  morphy234: Unbeatable defenses at the end... cannot penetrate it without heavy casualties :)

it's a draw!!!!!

Aug-15-06  LPeristy: This must have been depressing for white.
Aug-15-06  thathwamasi: <chessgames> what does this pun mean?
Aug-15-06  CapablancaFan: After 45.p=Q most "sane" players would have resigned. But somehow, someway, black sets up an iron clad, kryptonite defence fortress that white, even with 2 queens cannot penetrate. It must have pained Anthony Cornelius Kosten to have to acknowledge a draw with 2 queens, but he simply could not get through. This game might be a lesson to many about throwing in the towel "too early".
Aug-15-06  whatthefat: I've seen the 1 queen fortress, but 2 queens! Wow!
Aug-15-06  dzanone: <thathwamasi>, the pun refers to the fairy tale, "The Three Little Pigs." In it the big bad wolf says, "Little pig, little pig let me come in." The pun is the pig's answer.
Aug-15-06  syracrophy: <thatwamasi> The pun is referred to the "Three Little Pigs Story", when the wolf arrived to the house of one of the pigs, he asked: "Little pig, little pig, please let me in" and the pig answers "Not by the hair of my chinny-chin-chin, I won't let you in"

So, I think that the two white queens are like the wolf, asking the black king to come out from its fortress or let them in, and the black king answers "Not by the hair of my chinny-chin-chin, I wont let you in"

Ha-ha A nice pun! Funny!

An Englishman: Good Evening: Magnificent defense! Note that Black has to be careful not to play ...Rf5 if one of the Queens can snap it off. The defense is not as easy as it looks, as White can try to create a Zugzwang with K & 2Q vs. Rook to, for example, coax the Rook away from the defense of f7 at a critical moment. Black just barely has enough room to manouver.
Aug-15-06  VargPOD: If white would have kept his bishop instead of playing hasty 44.a7, he would have won. After losing the bishop, black's fortress is impenetrable. Very instructional game!
Aug-15-06  syracrophy: <VargPOD> Your idea of, instead of playing 44.a7, play another move that does not lose the bishop, is in fact interesting. I suggest the move 44.Bxb4 that I analyzed with Chessmaster 7000:

44.Bxb4 Rd1+ 45.Ke2 Rd7 46.Bxe7 Rxe7+ 47.Kf3 Ra7 48.Qc6 Rd7 49.Qb6 Rd3+ 50.Ke2 Ra3 51.a7 Ra2+ 52.Kd3 Ra3+ 53.Kc4 Ra4+ 54.Kb5 Ra1 55.Qa5! Rxa5+ 56.Kxa5 Ne6 57.a8=Q+ Kg7

White to play

A very tough position, but with a correct move order, is winning for white.

Once again, computers don't understand the drawing idea with the fortress! In your line:
44. Bxb4 Rf6! 45.Ke2 Bxb4 46.a7, and we'll end up the same way as in the game.

Not sure though, if another bishop move on move 44 might help.

Aug-15-06  EmperorAtahualpa: Haaaaaaa what a game!!

These puns that are used for these peculiar games are my favorite. Excellent job, <chessgames.com>. :)

Aug-15-06  jesterco12: What if 76.Qc7 ? Puts pressure on the f7 square, which I can't see a way for black to defend...
