Mar-02-09 | | NewLine: The wisdom of this game as GOTD is beyond me... |
|
Mar-02-09 | | JG27Pyth: What am I missing? This game doesn't strike me as particularly special... but I'm always happy to be enlightened. What makes this GOTD material, anyone? |
|
Mar-02-09 | | tal60: yeah, im not buying it either. talk to the hand... hand solo and chewie :) |
|
Mar-02-09 | | patzer2: According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk_t...(expression),
<"Talk to the hand" (or "tell it to the hand") is an English language slang phrase associated with the 1990s. It originated in African American Vernacular English as a contemptuous and urbanized way of saying that no one is listening, and is often elongated to a phrase such as "Talk to the hand, because the ear's not listening" or "Talk to the hand, (be)cause the face don't understand" or "Talk to the hand, (be)cause the face don't give a damn." The sentence is often considered to be a sarcastic or obnoxious phrase, and is commonly associated with urban black youths, especially black women, as well as teenage valley girls who adopted it. The phrase was popularized by actor and comedian Martin Lawrence in his 1992 sitcom Martin. It is usually accompanied by the gesture of extending one arm toward the other person, with the palm of that hand facing the person being insulted, in the manner of the gesture to stop.> Not only is the game quality on the today's GOTD subpar, but the puns have for the last two days degenerated to a juvenile level. |

Mar-02-09 | | Chicago Chess Man: <patzer Not only is the game quality on the today's GOTD subpar, but the puns have for the last two days degenerated to a juvenile level.> you obviously take the gotds and puns too seriously |

 | | al wazir: <patzer2: . . . the puns have for the last two days degenerated to a juvenile level.> The puns have almost invariably been abysmal, relying as they do on mispronunciations of players' names. |
Mar-02-09 | | chillowack: The people in charge of choosing the Game of the Day are losing sight of what's important--good games--and getting too caught up in the puns. For the sake of puns, mediocre or dull games are often chosen, which kind of defeats the purpose, IMO. |

|
Mar-02-09 | | tivrfoa: good game! |

Mar-02-09 | | kevin86: I good game. The late exchanges leave black with two pawns plus+. |

Mar-02-09 | | patzer2: White misses 12. Qxg2+! Kxg2 13. Bxd8 Rxd8 14. cxd5 , when he keeps a small but clear edge going into the endgame with no pawn weaknesses. Black's 37...Bxg4! is a good elementary example of how to win a pawn using a double attack in a minor piece ending. |

Mar-02-09 | | Once: For me, poor games and even worse puns are part of the charm of chessgames.com. If I want a high quality game I go surfing the games collections. I suppose it is quite a challenge for CG.com to keep finding new games to show us. |

Mar-02-09 | | newzild: Well, unlike everyone else, I enjoyed this game.
There was some good cut-and-thrust in the middlegame, eg. 15...Bg4, 20...Qd4, 22...Re5 |

Mar-02-09 | | patzer2: Some of the recent games from Linaires 2009 would make for good choice for the GOTD, such as the recent brilliant Sicilian Dragon win by Black in L Dominguez vs Carlsen, 2009. |

Let's see some great games highlighted, they don't have to be punny. |

Mar-02-09 | | ToTheDeath: For example why has this never made GOTD?

It's the earliest two rook sacrifice on record and a cracker of a game. Or this, Chess from the future!
