May-12-06  ConLaMismaMano: Was this game rapid?
May-12-06  John Abraham: Tilburg used to a very prestigious chess tournament...so no, I don't think this was a rapid game.
Nov-03-06  suenteus po 147: <John Abraham> Yes, Tilburg used to be a big tournament like Wijk aan Zee or Dortmund is now; and you're right, it was a standard time control game. They all were.

plang: 10 Rd1 was new; 10 e3 would have transposed into Seirawan - U.Andersson Nicsic 1983 (game is a Classical Nimzo Indian E32 not a Queens Indian). A variation given by Anand showed how dangerous the position could be for Black: 10..cxd 11 Rxd4..Nc6 12 Rf4!..Qc7 13 Rxf6..gxf 14 Qxf6..Kh7 15 Bg5! and wins. Adams started to go astray with 13..Nc6?!; after 13..d6 14 0-0..Nd7 15 b4 White has only a small advantage. 15..Ne5? worked out poorly but according to Anand: "Black already has to do something drastic. If White is given time to play Bg3 and Bd6 (after exchanging the e4 knight) White's position will be strategically winning.". Perhaps 15..Nf6 16 0-0..d6 would have been better. 19..Bc6 20 e4 would have been a better defense but White would still have been clearly better; after 19..Rf5? the rout was on.
