Poisonpawns: Is 9.b4 The reason the kings indian defense has disappeared from the top levels of play?

notyetagm: 9 b4 led to the creation of a whole new system against the Classical KID, the 7 ... Na6 line, which did not exist before the 90's.

notyetagm: This is the last Black Kasparov KID game in the database here: what a massacre, no wonder Gary stopped playing the KID.

Phony Benoni: I'm just going over Walter Browne's comments on the match games in his magazine, "Blitz Chess." He has the unusual habit of calling the players by their first names in his notes. However, it gets quite disconcerting in these games because he somehow got the idea that Kramnik's first name is Alex.

keypusher: No doubt Browne was protesting the cancellation of the Shirov-Kasparov title match.

It's very telling that Kasparov's last two Black KID games in this database are crushing defeats at the hands of Kramnik's Bayonet Attack.

After this last blitz game defeat, Kasparov just completely stopped playing the KID.

KingG: It's quite amusing that they were following a game from 1958 until move 15: T Van Scheltinga vs Euwe, 1958. Not what you would expect in a Bayonet King's Indian.
