|May-21-07|| ||newton296: white was asking for trouble by playing such a passive open. In fact, this open gets played against me as black alot! but rarely with white! Why give up space on my move 1 as white when your not forced too? space means room to move pieces and white gets nailed here cause he doesn't have any! Anyhow, Saw the rook sak and mate in seconds. thank god for monday!|
Someone posted he hated to see this open. You should jump for joy that u can equalize easily by advancing your e and d pawns 2 squares too grab the center white has voluntarily given up. presto !! the game is already even! now just play to avoid weaknesses in your own camp that can be exploited!
|May-21-07|| ||newton296: nimzoknight , U asked Why did white allow the capture of the knight?? The knight is pinned to the king by the d6 bishop so white has nothing better than e3xe4 believe it or not!|
|May-21-07|| ||kevin86: A very simple mate! So much so that it qualifies for a Monday puzzle though a mate in three.|
Back it up one move and you have a forced mate in four-but it probably be a Tuesday puzzle.
Not strange how white avoided playing the king's gambit-though the play does have the same air about it. After all,Falkbeer would probably know something about 1 e4 e5 2 f4 d5!!! lol.
|May-21-07|| ||YouRang: <Crowaholic: I saw Qh4 first, and Rh1+ a bit later. > Same here, and I also decided that Rh1 was aesthetically 'superior', in that you get to make an impressive rook sac and force a mating line where white has no options whatsoever.|
On the other hand, if you have a sadistic streak, and you like to toy with your prey before administering the kill, you might make a deliberate 'blunder' with:
13. Re1 Qg7+? (deliberate)
14. Kf1 Qh1+
15. Ke2 Qxg2+
16. Kd3 dxe4+
17. Kc4 Na5+
18. Kb5 Bd7+ (now a knight sac too!)
19. Kxa5 a6
20. (this is the delicious moment when white can make any move he wants, but he's so helpless that it doesn't even matter! Mua-Mua-Bwa HA HA!)
20...b6# (killed by a pawn - he he).
Anyway, that's only for sadistic people. Personally, I frown upon this sort of play.
|May-21-07|| ||Justawoodpusher: Got Qh4, but either way with ...beer one is always successful!|
|May-21-07|| ||WarmasterKron: Nothing wrong with 1.e3, especially if Black plays 1...e5. I think many Black players of the French would give a limb for an extra tempo on move one.|
12...Rh1+ is the most aesthic move of course, but 12...Qh4 is quicker, provided White doesn't play 13.Qh5 out of spite.
|May-21-07|| ||PAWNTOEFOUR: well the only move i saw was Qh4...that should work!|
|May-21-07|| ||PAWNTOEFOUR: i should have read YouRang's comment first,would have saved me some work...shredder found rh8+ in less than a nano second but after ...Qh4 gives the following line...2.Qh5 Qxh5..3.exd5 Qh1#...that's pretty much the way i saw it too|
|May-21-07|| ||wolfmaster: Easy puzzle,naturally, but good for beginners. The Monday "formula": Sac(usually queen),check,mate.|
|May-21-07|| ||playground player: Does anybody still use this goofy opening, other than the dumb computer in Pogo's beginners' room?|
|May-21-07|| ||fm avari viraf: A trick of a trickster! Well, in Chess it's all about tactics & techniques when unleashed spell disaster.|
|May-21-07|| ||Whitehat1963: I must say, I didn't even consider the rook sac. I was completely focused on 12...Qh4. I didn't see a way for white to stop the coming checkmate.|
|May-21-07|| ||IMDONE4: Cute, and all you haters out there, stop bashing the monday puzzles. There are players on this site who are beginners, and need this kind of training. So plz, stop posting retarded-sounding comments like "These are too ez!" "Eazy monday puzzle as usual" and "Im not even gonna look at the puzzles Monday and Tuesday, their two ez."|
|May-21-07|| ||YouRang: <IMDONE4> People who call the Monday "easy" -- are haters?|
Methinks you've gone a bit overboard. :-|
|May-21-07|| ||Phony Benoni: I'm familiar with the mating pattern, so I saw 1...Rh1+ instantly. In a game, I would have not even bothered considering 1...Qh4; to my mind, it's much easier to sac a piece for an absolutely forced line than play a quiet move and actually have to calculate something.|
Aesthetically, I think that the "quiet" 1...Qh4 is the prettier continuation; practically, 1...Rh1+ is the only move worth bothering with.
|May-21-07|| ||schnarre: ...Rh1+ was an obvious one.|
|May-21-07|| ||iceman77: a no-brainer.|
|May-21-07|| ||Zorts: <You Rang> Hilarious!!|
|May-23-07|| ||Richerby: <YourRang: People who call the Monday "easy" -- are haters? Methinks you've gone a bit overboard. :-|>
Sure but it's really tedious reading the litany of ``Oh, this is so easy'' comments every Monday. The whole point of Monday puzzles is that they're easy. Saying that a Monday puzzle is easy is like saying that bishops move along diagonals: everybody already knows it and pointing it out doesn't make you look big or clever.|
|May-23-07|| ||Zorts: It's relative--to some beginners the monday's are still difficult and needed; so we need more comments that include sadistic-line analysis with 'deliberate' blunders, which makes the 'easy' games longer.|
