Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-12-06  2Zugzwang: Lasker makes many small and yet perfectly precise combinations. This game illustrates the importance of continual pressure being applied once an attack is started. Laster never lets off. Even when an exchange is forced he finds a way to slurp up extra pawns on his way out. He constantly secures the advantage and therefore the win.

sleepyirv: Lasker is throwing darts in this game.

He has the deep understanding that when you have the initiative and you can out calculate your opponent, good tactics just happen.

Jun-22-13  morfishine: Given the huge difference in strength, Black played quite well

An Englishman: Good Evening: Black played well enough to force Lasker to work a bit for the win, and the result is quite an impressive little combination from moves 18-23.
Jun-22-13  newzild: A fine tactical display by Lasker.
Jun-22-13  master of defence: I think 10...exf3 11.Bxd8 Kxd8 would give black better chances.
Jun-22-13  kevin86: The pun is a reach...

The game was too,Lasker toyed with his opponent, then turned to stone.

Jun-22-13  LoveThatJoker: I just logged in to say that this is a terrible pun.

tamar: I don't know. The pun is pretty descriptive. Gelly was in a jam.

scutigera: I like the pun too. Gelly was indeed in dire straits, and the Strait of Magellan is known for being tortuous, difficult, and dangerous, which is why people generally went around Cape Horn, even in sailing vessels, even against the wind.
Dec-08-14  TheFocus: From a simul in Buenos Aires, Argentina on July 17, 1910.

Lasker's score was +10=2-0.
