offramp: <The Goldin Rule> this is a very poor effort.
It was made 9 years ago and I hope Pun Theory has advanced since then.

OhioChessFan: Great game, serviceable pun. Which is well above average these days. Based on 2022's output, I'd say Pun Theory has regressed.
Feb-18-22  goodevans: <OCF> Yes, it would seem that gone are the days when a clever pun would promote some absolute dross to GOTD. And good riddance!

But already this year we've had <Teenage Waste Lund> which would probably have made the top ten even in previous years where the pun was king. For my part I'm really appreciating this change of emphasis.

You, ummm, liked that one? Whew. Definitely a bottom 10 for the year.

OhioChessFan: A quick review of the puns for 2022. I'll list those I'd grade as at least a B, neither of which I'd give an A:

Jameson on the Rocks
Valentin's Daly Massacre

takebackok: No think all forced Monday, 30. Nf6+ and Qg6 mate
Jan-13-25  King.Arthur.Brazil: Beautiful combo: 32. Nf6+ gxf6 33. Qg6#. The return of loved Mondays!
Jan-13-25  Mayankk: White has thrown everything in this attack and īseems the conclusion is near. 32 Nf6+ gxf6 33 Qg6# works like a charm.

Worth reminding a few moves to see how we reached here. 27 Rh6 and 31 Qe8+ are both gorgeous moves and could be puzzle one day.

Teyss: That's as very easy as it gets.

As pointed out by <Mayankk> 27.? would be a good strategic end-week puzzle and 31.? a good mid-week tactical one.

Jan-13-25  TheaN: <32.Nf6+ gxf6 33.Qg6#> is forced, though it's easy to overlook the pin on Rf8 or go in guns blazing with QxR+ first. Typical Monday, I like it.

Jan-13-25  Damenlaeuferbauer: After long pondering, the then Russian and later American GM Alexander Goldin finally found the mate in 2 moves with the nice knight sacrifice 32.Nf6+!,gxf6 33.Qg6#. Did I already mention, that I love Mondays?
Jan-13-25  Hercdon: Too easy

Maybe start after move 29? Or would that make it a Tuesday or Wednesday puzzle?

Teyss: Looking at the game again, 30.? would also make a nice mid-week POTD. One has to find the game line with 31.Qe8+! (obvious after you see it but try spotting it OTB in blitz) and the other continuation 30...Kh8 31.Ng5+ gxh6 32.Qxh6+ Kg8 33.Qh7#

So in summary puzzles on moves 27, 29, 30, 31 and 32, let's add 28 for good measure. The game is a puzzle book by itself.

Jan-13-25  Rosbach: Nf6+ wins: 32. Nf6+ gxf6 33. Qg6#
Jan-14-25  Halldor: At first glance this position seemed like a teaser, but after a few seconds I saw the beautiful solution. — I might have missed this myself in a game due to the many threats on the board.
Jan-14-25  TheaN: <Hercdon: Too easy

I'd argue move 29 is the only move that's not really a puzzle move... actually, on that note this game does have an interesting difficulty curve in itself, however.

I'd say 27.Rh6! is about Thursday-Friday-ish, 28.Nh7!? (though technically not the best move) would be Wednesday, 30.Qe6+ Tuesday, and 31.Qe8+ Monday on the tougher side, and finally the presented 32.Nf6+ also Monday on the easy side.
