Sneaky: Stevens that was mostly a chain yank, just a joke referring to the fact that "Wunderkind" is German for "wonder-child".

Meanwhile... woah this is some game. Surely this must be Topalov's prep? No way he could think his way through this stuff in 15 minutes.

Jan-24-07  Stevens: another exchange sac?! topalov hates having the "rook pair"!
Jan-24-07  TrueBlue: this kid has balls, I will give him that, I wouldn't dare play such an open game against Topalov.

Bishoprick: Outta my book. . .
Jan-24-07  kellmano: <another exchange sac?! topalov hates having the "rook pair"!> ha ha ha.

Remember the games with drawnik. Quick Topalov play does not necessary equal a good Topalov position.

Jan-24-07  chestknot1: <Quick Topa play does not equal good Topa play>, but black looks all over the place in this one. Is something nasty going to happen on g7?
Jan-24-07  Stevens: there are two games in the chessbase db, both of which has 13.Qa1. one was played last year with Kempinski (?) with white in dresden and ended in a draw. i guess it's possible Topalov saw it?
Jan-24-07  Stevens: this is the draw for anyone interested.

i can't believe topalov has the foresight to have this as preperation, but i also can't believe he has such powerful intuition to sac the exchange this quickly!

Jan-24-07  EmperorAtahualpa: Awesome moves so far!! He might have embarassed himself at the World Championship, but Topalov sure is busy to conquer the hearts of chess-fans once again...
Jan-24-07  Marmot PFL: I don't believe white really has enough for the material unless black plays very passively. white has the element of surprise on his side presumably.

Oh, come here and kiss me, you goateed Bulgarian rogue! Your exchange sacrifices are irresistable!

Jan-24-07  EmperorAtahualpa: What next for Topalov? I'm thinking of 15.Nd4, with the threat of boxing in the queen via Bb5.

  ketchuplover: I predict 15...f6
Jan-24-07  Stevens: interesting that ...Qc7 has only been played before, but someone posted ...Qa5 on the main page from rybka, and thats what Carlsen has opted for. this is a more aggressive approach?
Jan-24-07  mkrk17: can someone pls tell me how is Anands game going.. ?
Jan-24-07  Stevens: <mkrk17> follow the offical site link, all games are broadcast there. apparently karjakin has sacked his queen for other material. but go to the tournament page to avoid confusion with this game

Jan-24-07  Marmot PFL: The Q on a4 controls the 5th rank, which helps black in lines like h6 Bh4 Re8 Bd3 Ne5 Nxe5 Qxh4 and the trades look favorable.

Mateo: Carlsen has to find a square for his Knight, in order to develop his Bishop. The simplest is 15...b6, and then either 16.cxb6 Nxb6, either 16.c6 Nc5.
Jan-24-07  chestknot1: <How is Anand´s game going> It´s a bloodbath Karjakin sacrificing Q for R,N and two pawns.Karjakin has been pondering his 24th move for some time.
Jan-24-07  TrueBlue: I love it. Topalov is really teaching this kid how to play chess :)
Jan-24-07  Dowell318: ok 15. ...Nxc5 looks like a blunder, giving away a knight for a pawn...is this a blunder, or is black ok?

Mateo: 15...Nxc5 was unexpected. Difficult to say if it is really good. Now, after 16.Qxc5 Be6, Black threatens to put a Rook on c8.
Jan-24-07  Marmot PFL: I doubt anyone expected Nxc5.
Jan-24-07  Marmot PFL: Qc3 Rc8 Qc1 and I don't see white's attack. Carlsen will show us, unless he miscalculated.
Jan-24-07  lucifershammer: I think Nxc5 is not too bad. Opens up the c-file to bring the rooks into play. In fact, I rather like Black here.
