Sep-30-08  thathwamasi: Black's 14th move is worth a puzzle Im sure.

parmetd: even better than black's 14th move do black's 12th move! Figuring out you can legally castle at that point is insane!
Sep-25-11  DrMAL: <parmetd: even better than black's 14th move do black's 12th move! Figuring out you can legally castle at that point is insane!> I watched the Roman Dzindzi video (#2 of Roman's Lab) at a friend's home yesterday that featured this game. The video was entertaining with his sense of humor. Yes, 12...O-O was really brilliant (along with black's next few moves), it invited the trapper to trap himself.
Sep-25-11  DrMAL: LOL, was just making a point. A few on here are amazingly infantile. Glad to see a post from you, cheers.
Sep-25-11  Shams: <Three posts since your return>

Did he leave and come back already? The things one misses without cable.

Domdaniel: Just imagine getting 14...Qf3!! in the mail.

Like a membership card for the Kieseritzky & Von Bardeleben Famous Losers' Club (Postal Division).

Beats a valentine.

Feb-15-12  Shams: <Domdaniel> Maybe Honfi included a "winky smiley" on the postcard to soften the blow.

Domdaniel: <Shams> Sadly, I don't think that Kuchta ever made it into the Famous Losers Club. Though I've since found the game in three books of opening traps, and found six other games where 14...Qf3 was played. In one of them, White managed to draw after 15...Qxe4.

In other cases, including one played by a young Erwin l'Ami, rated 2295, the game limps on to move 40 or beyond. The quick collapse here is unusual.

BTW, I'm sure Honfi had that 2390 rating (above) at *some* stage, but nobody had one in 1956.

*eek face*

Jan-15-15  towsen: What if white just castles first at move 13, making d5 a real threat? Now 13...Nxd4 loses, so does black have anything better than 13.... Qd6, which after 14.Bc3 looks good for white?
