 | | kamalakanta: This was a masterful performance by Anand. Pressing constantly, finding and creating new weaknesses in the enemy camp. From the moment he played 11.b4 the White game flowed flawlessly. This is a World Champion at work! |

Ne3+ 1/2 1/2!> I assume that the intention is 63.Kxf2 Nxf5 64.exf5 Kd6, but after 65.f6 it's a basic <two-pawns and king> vs <king> ending which is won for the side with the two pawns. If black plays Kd6-d7-d6 white just brings his king to help. If black tries to get in front of the f pawn he loses after 65...Kd7 66.Kf3 (or other king advance) Ke8 67.d6 K~ and white gets to promote a pawn. |

From the moment he played 11.b4 the White game flowed flawlessly.> 11.b4 seems to be the novelty here and indeed from that point on Anand's game was very impressive, both strategically and tactically. 38.Nxa5, however, was a rather sloppy move (Anand himself calls it "pathetic" - http://www.amberchess2009.com/Round...), allowing Radjabov to gain two minors for the rook and some counter-chances - 38.Rxe6 instead would have made things much easier (though less interesting in the end...) |

Mar-21-09 | | thathwamasi: <62 ... Ne3+ 1/2 1/2!> How? Endgame isnt my strengths and I don't have tablebase assitance. However, I feel if 62...Ne3+ is played, black will lose and white will be a pawn up. Will white not be able to convert it to a win? Please could someone assist me to find a draw here if there is one. Thanks - T |

Mar-27-09 | | Ulhumbrus: After 12 Nxb3 f5 Anand does not give Black time to reach safety and keep his gains but makes one threat after another, and wins at least a pawn in the end. Black has however an interesting alternative to 12...f5 and that is the pawn sacrifice 12...c4! eg 13 dxc4 ( now White's Queen side pawn structure is shattered)13... Qxd1 14 Rfxd1 c5! 15 a4 Nc6 16 c3 Be6 17 Nfd2 Ke7 |

White is better after 15 Rd6.> On 15...Ra6 White's Nb3 remains out of play and White's Queen side pawn structure remains shattered |

Apr-01-09 | | Nuncle: <Ulhumbrus: On 15...Ra6 White's Nb3 remains out of play and White's Queen side pawn structure remains shattered> Black is a pawn down and totally passive, with a weak b-pawn that is likely to fall as well. White's weaknesses are relatively minor by comparison. 16 Rb1, and black will have a hard time defending b6. When the b-pawn falls, the c5 pawn will soon follow. |
