Dec-15-10  redmaninaustin: Rf7+ must have been quite a shock! A very pleasing finish...
Dec-15-10  rilkefan: After 15...Be6, the reason 16.f5 doesn't work is kind of cute. Maybe even an annoying Monday puzzle with White to move.
Dec-15-10  CapablancaFan122: Hmm, I don't understand black's 36th move. Why <Ng6>? Was black hoping that white would miss the fork on f4? I've been studying for my cellular biology final non-stop for the last 10 hours and my brain is fried (and yet I am here, analyzing chess..) so it's highly possible that I am missing something here.
Dec-15-10  Elsinore: <CapablancaFan122> I don't see what black could've done to save the game after whites moves (34-36). Black is already down a bishop at this point. I don't think he was hoping that white would miss the fork since blacks rook is already pressuring the Queen, but maybe an exchange 37. Qxe8+, Kxe8, 38. Fxg6, this way it's blacks Queen against Whites 3 minor pieces. Whites moves to end the game were very nice.

al wazir: 35. Qxe5 wins immediately. (The threat is 36. Ref7#.)

I think the game score must be wrong. It's hard to believe that a 2400 player would miss that.

Dec-15-10  NewLine: The Joke Of The Day: How did black manage to set all of his pieces in such useless positions...

Dec-15-10  Mendrys: <Elsinore> I fancy that black was hoping to get a pawn or two or at least free his queen with something like 37. Qf3 Nxg4+ and maybe a chance whith whites pieces a bit uncoordinated and on the sides of the board.

I'm glad that Van der Sterren didn't see 35. Qxe5 as al wazir saw else we would have missed the beautiful 37. Rf7+!

Dec-15-10  Mendrys: Newline, with 18...Bxf5 black begins execution of his plan to entomb his queen on white's king side while finding a way to open the g file for his rook.

To be honest, I'm not sure what better way he has to save his beleagured d pawn.

Dec-15-10  sofouuk: <al wazir: 35. Qxe5 wins immediately. (The threat is 36. Ref7#.) I think the game score must be wrong. It's hard to believe that a 2400 player would miss that.>

... with the time control approaching, im pretty sure he just did. quite a nice monday (well, maybe tuesday) puzzle tho

Dec-15-10  mastermind7994: The reason 16.f5 doesn't work is because of 16...c5 17.Qd3 Ne5 .
Dec-15-10  mastermind7994: Now 16.Bf1 does make the threat possible since c4 is protected.
Dec-15-10  snarky: Yes, I was wondering why Qxe5 went unplayed. Even under time control, it would seem obvious as White's previous move has set up mate on f7 and Black's queen has nothing but a spite check available.

So just remove the piece that protects f7. Even a patzer like me would find that move.

Dec-15-10  sfm: <al wazir: 35. Qxe5 wins immediately.> Well spotted! But had White played that we'd never have seen the nice ending with 37.Rf7+!
Dec-15-10  belgradegambit: <CapablancaFan122> Make sure you understand the transport mechanisms in the golgi apparatus.I heard there will be a question on the smooth endoplasmic reticulum function
Dec-15-10  Cryptale: Oh dear. What have you done to your pieces, Mr Gelpke? They are gasping for air while you keep cutting trees in Amazonia and increasing carbon dioxide limits at the same time?
Dec-15-10  kevin86: A fine finish! The pawn will cost black his rook-before or after promotion.
Dec-15-10  Shamot: Good point out, Al Wazir! taking the knight with queen wins.
Dec-15-10  WhiteRook48: stupid attempted trick
Dec-15-10  Elsinore: <al wazir> Good call!!!!
Dec-15-10  CapablancaFan122: <al wazir> I am the 10th person to say this but: Good find! I totally missed it. Goes to show why I am not a 2400 ranked player :)
