Marmot PFL: I think around moves 18-20 b4 would have given white some edge, threatening b5 and cramping black a bit. Grischuk's time shortage seemed to affect Kramnik's play more than it did his opponent.

<polarmis: [Kramnik] thought the position looked good visually, but he couldn't see a way to strengthen. He said he blundered when he played 20. Rd1 - he saw immediately he played it that Grischuk would reply 20...Rxd6, though before the move he was just looking at 20...Rc8.>

Yeah, I've noticed that the silicons were recommending here <20.b4!> with some considerable pressure by White. An important tactical point is that in case of 20...Rxd6 there comes 21.exd6 Ne8 with the black pieces positioned very awkwardly, whereas after 20.Rd1 Rxd6, Black can meet 21.exd6 with 21...Rd8! (22.dxc7 Rxd3 with a decisive attack - Black threatens Rxd1+ & Qe1#, and if the white rook moves away from the d-file there's ...Rd2). On the other hand, after 20.b4 Rxd6 21.exd6 the 21...Rd8 idea doesn't work since 22.b5! wins a piece (if the bishop retreats, White can play dxc7).
