Kibitzer's Corner
May-07-13  ninja warrior: ouch! that's 2 times i've seen hammer get MATED by carlsen now... bet the poor guy is getting tired of it by now.
May-07-13  Maatalkko: Pet peeve of mine that Chessbase calls this is called a "sac" when Black is getting the Queen back four ply later through a forced sequence with two pawns interest.

It's a nice tactic, but not really a sac.

May-07-13  Novirasputin: Magnus now has an Arabian Mate and Anastasia's Mate to his credit. I wonder how other GMs fair with mating patterns? Can Magnus run the cycle of each mating pattern there is? And is there a player who has done so?
May-07-13  Shams: Wikipedia calls this a hook mate.
May-08-13  Naniwazu: <Maatalkko> Technically it's called a 'sham sacrifice' which Spielmann defines as 'material which is given up but is regained subsequently, frequently with interest'. It's not so much a sacrifice as what he calls an 'advantageous business deal'.
May-12-13  JustAnotherPatzer: waiting for the Hammer to fall
Feb-08-15  tonsillolith: Why not <32. Be1 Rxh2?>
Jun-26-15  jerseybob: I like that double fianchetto for black and the way the bishop shows up right on time with 38..Be5!
