Jun-19-14  thegoodanarchist: Carlsen is a grinder. He doesn't let up!
Jun-19-14  1d410: This reminds me of the bugs bunny cartoon when Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck are arguing who get's shot and daffy duck gets blasted. Carlsen can play a4 and then capture with the pawn because it is pinned to the bishop.

tamar: Black's next move however would have been the 50th without a capture or a pawn move.

Could he somehow claim a draw, if he moved say 103...Kg6 and did not overstep the time limit?

Jun-20-14  Kinghunt: Had this been a classical game, Le undoubtedly would have found an improvement in the final position. He should not have played 1-0, but rather 1/2-1/2, as 50 moves had passed since the last pawn move or capture. Alas, nobody was counting, and Carlsen scored another full point.
Jun-20-14  piyushranjan: id expect better sportsmanship from wc!

tamar: This was a time forfeit, by the way. Carlsen showed 17 seconds when Le hit zeros.
Jun-21-14  Eusebius: Live and let die. Not very nice. But I assume WC's are made of iron.
Jun-27-14  The17thPawn: Doesn't 34.) Bxc6 simply win a pawn for white?
Jun-27-14  karban: < Doesn't 34.) Bxc6 simply win a pawn for white?>

34. ... Rc8 and black wins.

Jul-03-14  Gambit86: After 34...Rc8 it's equal once black recaptures, there's no win. If anything white has a slight edge because his king will be centralized.

Whoa, it's bad sportsmanship to win a blitz game on time? My mind is BLOWN! Hopefully for the last time in 2014.

tamar: "When I won on time, my position was actually winning...I had managed trick him, but-however, there had been 51 moves without any pieces captured, or pawns moved, but there was absolutely no way he could know that, since in blitz you don't write down your moves, and so he had to..."

"But you remembered this?"

"No, I had no idea. I only saw it afterwards. I checked the game with a computer and at the end, the computer is saying 0.00, and I was like 'What? My position is completely winning' but then I saw it was because there were 50 moves." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aE...
