keypusher: <Nelson was one of England's most naval commanders, and despised weak commands. At one battle when he was told that his Admiral-in-Chief had ordered him to cease fire, he put the telephone under his blind arm and exclaimed in disgust: 'Kiss me, Hardy!' By this and other intrepid manoeuvres the French were utterly driven from the seas.>

--Sellar and Yeatman, <1066 and All That>.

Aug-06-22  ajile: This opening is a Sicilian player's wet dream.
Aug-06-22  areknames: Svidler's weak effort notwithstanding, this is a great game and pun.
Aug-07-22  Little Caezarz: Mammma Mia!! A most unique Khismatullin Mate!!

Doez anyone recall seeing a queen sacrifice sauce the ice cream for a discovered double check x-ray mate topped by a cherry royal fork?!!

This banana split dezerves to be famous!!

Aug-07-22  stone free or die: It seems <Little Caezarz> knows a little something about mating terminology.

Though the fork is a bit incidental given it's a mate.

Aug-07-22  Little Caezarz: So you're not familiar with the double checkmate, much less the x-ray on the long diagonal. The king uzually tries to stay off open linez, so it's not that common. Take note, it could be the last of its kind that we'll ever see.
Aug-10-22  stone free or die: <LC - So you're not familiar with the double checkmate, much less the x-ray on the long diagonal.>

Y such mizlead? Z is not in evidenze.

An Englishman: Good Afternoon: If you had shown me this game and asked who played White, would have guessed--meself! This looked a *lot* like the losses where I played much too passively. Excellent final combination, though.
Sep-18-24  areknames: The pun is still good but this has been GOTD before.

offramp: This game - it reminds me of those people who lose <everything> to a massive tornado in Kentucky. They saw cows swirling around with cars and diners.

Shrug and move to the next board.

Oct-14-24  areknames: Yes <CG>, it's still a good pun but enough already ;)
Oct-14-24  goodevans: <Sep-03-15 Bubo bubo: A little déjà-vu for me today...>

A comment more prophetic than any of us realised at the time.

  Teyss: What a match!

Safety Pin was leading 5-0 and was close to clinching a clear victory, when Khismat started coming back. 5-1, 5-2 and now 5-3. Safety Pin just needs one extra point yet seems unable to cross the finishing line while Khismat, on the edge of the cliff, is closing the gap.

Who will eventually win? Stay tuned.

knaugle: Well, this game is misclassified as a B23 closed Sicilian. It's anything but.

perfidious: The best fit for this--which is by no means the only game cast into B23 in error--is B91.
Nov-12-24  goodevans: <Khismat> now just one behind <Safety Pin>!

Surely the perfect time for whoever’s in charge to step in and declare the match abandoned. I, for one, would be happy if they did.

Teyss: I was vaguely hoping that with my previous post Missy would understand the analogy with the 1984-85 World Championship and call off the match.

Apparently that was too much betting on her intelligence. Or her technical skills.

A prophetic post.

Teyss: Actually here Caruana vs N Theodorou, 2024 (kibitz #3) Missy meant "tomorrow" generically, applying to every day (as in "Diets always start tomorrow").

A very, very long year.
