Jan-15-17  razetime: I found 25. c5! bxc5 26.Qa5+ Kd7 27. Qb5 Rc6 28. Ra3 Rc8 But miscalculated on 30. a4? Oh well.
Jan-15-17  Steve.Patzer: I dismissed 25. c5 because I thought Qxc5 would hold.
Jan-15-17  Steve.Patzer: Apparently I did not see 26. Rc3
Jan-15-17  diagonalley: ...hmmmmm... i tried white's 25th as it seemed the only move which offered progress, although i couldn't calculate more than five or six moves ahead. not really "insane" methinks.

An Englishman: Good Evening: Stumbled attempting to find a refutation of 25...dxc5. Could only see 26.Qd2 but did not feel certain that it worked. What is White's best?
Jan-15-17  Mazu: I guess after 25...dxc5 26.Qa4 would win, threatening Rd7+ & Qxa7+ simultaneously...
Jan-15-17  mel gibson: The computer gives only less than a pawn & a half advantage.

Jan-15-17  drollere: why not 27. ... Ke7 with Kf8 to follow? putting a piece in pin is almost always a desperate move.
Jan-15-17  agb2002: The material is identical.

Black threatens Qxe4.

White has c5, Qa3 and Qa4.

In the case of 25.c5

A) 25... bxc5 26.Qa5+

A.1) 26... Kd7 27.Rf3

A.1.a) 27... Ke8 28.Qxa7 Rd7 29.Rf8+ Kxf8 (29... Ke7 30.Rf7+ Kxf7 31.Qxd7+ and 32.Qxc8 wins) 30.Qxd7

A.1.a.i) 30... Ra8 31.Rxd6 looks winning (31... Rxa2 32.Rxe6).

A.1.a.ii) 30... Rb8 31.Qxh7 wins a pawn but unclear.

A.1.b) 27... Ke7 28.Qxa7+ Rd7 29.Rf7+ wins as above.

A.1.c) 27... Rc7 28.Rf7+ wins.

A.1.d) 27... Qg7 28.Qxa7+ Rc7 29.Qb6 Rc6 30.Qb7+ Rc7 31.Qb5+ and material is even but looks very good for White due to the position of the black pieces and the passed a-pawn.

A.2) 26... Kc6 27.Qa6+

A.2.a) 27... Kc7 28.Qxa7+ Kc6 29.Rb3 with the threas Qb7# and Rb6# looks winning.

A.2.b) 27... Kd7 28.Rxd6+ Ke7 -28... Kc7 29.Qxa7#; 28... Ke8 29.Rxe6+ wins- 29.Qxa7+ Ke8 30.Rd7 seems to win.

A.3) 26... Kb7 27.Ra3 Ra8 28.Rb1+ Kc8 (28... Kc6 29.Qb5+ Kc7 30.Qb7#) 29.Qa6+ Kd7 30.Rb7+ Ke8 31.Qc6+ Kf8 32.Qc7 wins.

A.4) 26... Kb8 27.Rb1+ Ka8 28.Qa6 unclear.

B) 25... dxc5 26.Qa4, with the double threat Qxa7+ and Rd7+, looks very good for White.

C) 25... Qxc5 26.Rc3 wins.

Jan-15-17  morfishine: <agb2002> What was hardest for me to see relates to your post referencing <25...dxc5> 26.Qa4, with the double threat Qxa7+ and Rd7+, looks very good for White.

Thats hard to see, at least for me

An Englishman: Good Evening: Thanks to all who pointed out 25...dxc5; 26.Qa4. Looks pretty good.

I didn't have much time (I missed the quick mate after 26... Kb7(8) 27.Rb1+ Ka8 28.Qxa7+) and spent most of it with bxc5 so I could only give my impression with dxc5, without any line.

Jun-10-17  Oversight: I also see the difficulty with white having a better game after 25... dxc5. What follows seems to me to be 1. Qa4 Rxd3 2. Qxa7+ Kc6 3. Qa4+ Kb7 4. Rxd3 c4 5. Rd7+ Rc7 6. Rd8 Qa5 7. Qd1 Qf5 8. Qa4 Qa5 9. Qd1 Rf7 10. Rd7+ Rxd7 11. Qxd7+ Ka6 12. Qc8+ Kb5 13. Qxe6 h5 14. Qf5+ Kb4 15. Qb1+ Kc5 16. Qf5+ Kb4 17. Qb1+ Kc5 18. Qf5+ Kd4. with the game being relatively even.
