Mar-10-20		samvega: Went for the inferior 25. Nc6, which I'm going to pretend to myself is more aesthetic than the correct move.

Mar-10-20		Granny O Doul: I think, aside from not winning a pawn and not wrecking Black's structure, that 25. Nc6 is less æsthetic than the other move, because Nxg6, if we ignore the fact that White threatens Qd4+, looks like a knight sacrifice while Nc6 does not. It is good enough to win, though.

Many people first count material. I don't. I usually look for all possible checks first. Maybe it was a fluke that i stumbled on the solution in like 5 seconds. After seeing that Nxg6 works, and that ..fxg6 is forced, there was no need to go further. Of course if i was in a real game, i probably would have spent a few seconds scanning other possibilities, but only a few. Now.. Had i not looked for checks first, and saw that Nc6 works, the next natural step is to check the mirror image move Nxg6! which is better for several obvious reasons. Either way, you get back to the better move Nxg6 IF you consider all possible checks, AND when it comes to knights, look at mirror image. Just a tip to remember.

Mar-10-20		TheaN: Straightforward Tuesday, White threatens and executes the double attack 25.Nxg6 with both Nxe7 and Qd4+, and Black can't prevent both. Perhaps only the zwischenzug 25....Nf6 is worth a mention (missed it), but then Ra8 is hanging, 26.Qxa8 +-. After the prosaic 25....fxg6 26.Qd4+ +- White is winning, the rest is worse.

Mar-10-20		TheaN: Actually, 25....Nf6 does prevent 26.Nxe7 Nxe4 ⩲ but not 26.Qd4 as Black will still lose a tempo preventing Nxe7. 26.Qxa8 is more direct but Qd4 is just as good.
