  Tabanus: Difficult because of name spellings, and he may have been a seaman not showing in the records. Here's all I have (main suspect):

1902: Egil Opsahl, b. 4 Jun 1902, d. June 1984 in Atlanta, Fulton, Georgia (US Social Security Death Index)

1910: Egil Henriksen (as no. 6 of 11 children), born 04.06.1902, son of farmer Henrik H. Opsahl (Elverum Norway, Census 1910)

1923: Egil Opdahl, 4/6 02, leaves Hamburg Germany 11 July 1923 for Oslo together with sister Esther (Hamburg passenger list)

1927: Egil Opsahl, 25, Engineer, born in Elverum Norway, arrives from Oslo to New York 22 Sep 1927 (NY passenger list) (outward Oslo list has electrical engineer)

1933: “An interesting chess match took place April 15 at Jackson, Mich., between Detroit and Michigan Chess Association … R. Ballenger 0 Eigo Opsahl 1” (Plain Dealer, 23 April 1933, p. 13) (possibly “Eizo”)

1933: Opsahl, E. (MI) in US Open, Detroit, Sept. 1933 (from Phony Benoni)
