   Jan-06-19 G McCarthy vs M Kennefick, 1977 (replies)

Domdaniel: Maurice Kennefick died over the new year, 2018-2019. RIP. It was many years since I spoke to him. He gave up chess, I reckon, towards the end of the 80s, though even after that he was sometimes lured out for club games. I still regard this game, even after so many years, as the ...

   Jan-06-19 Maurice Kennefick (replies)

Domdaniel: Kennefick died over the 2018-19 New Year. Formerly one of the strongest players in Ireland, he was the first winner of the Mulcahy tournament, held in honour of E.N. Mulcahy, a former Irish champion who died in a plane crash. I played Kennefick just once, and had a freakish win, ...

   Jan-06-19 Anand vs J Fedorowicz, 1990 (replies)

Domdaniel: <NBZ> -- Thanks, NBZ. Enjoy your chortle. Apropos nothing in particular, did you know that the word 'chortle' was coined by Lewis Carroll, author of 'Alice in Wonderland'? I once edited a magazine called Alice, so I can claim a connection. 'Chortle' requires the jamming ...

Domdaniel: <al wazir> - It's not easy to go back through past Holiday Present Hunts and discover useful information. Very few people have played regularly over the years -- even the players who are acknowledged as best, <SwitchingQuylthulg> and <MostlyAverageJoe> have now ...

Domdaniel: Wesley is a man of his word. Once again, I am impressed by his willingness to stick to commitments.

   Jan-04-19 G Neave vs B Sadiku, 2013 (replies)

Domdaniel: Moral: if you haven't encountered it before, take it seriously. Remember Miles beating Karpov with 1...a6 at Skara. Many so-called 'irregular' openings are quite playable.

   Dec-30-18 Robert Enders vs S H Langer, 1968

Domdaniel: <HMM> - Heh, well, yes. I also remembered that Chuck Berry had a hit with 'My Ding-a-ling' in the 1970s. I'm not sure which is saddest -- that the author of Johnny B. Goode and Memphis Tennessee and Teenage Wedding - among other short masterpieces - should sink to such ...

Domdaniel: <whiteshark> - thanks - I've got about 12 engines on this machine already. I'm not always looking for the strongest. I enjoy watching the weaker ones too - Fritz 4 vs Ruffian or GNU, for example. And I tend to know where to find more if I want.

But thanks for the thought. And it may inspire others to arm themselves with Rybka.

Nov-03-06  whiteshark: <I'm not always looking for the strongest.> Me, too. I want ideas, to be inspired... In one cc game -2 good moves- I let an engine ranked 158 or so decide which move to take... really ramdon

Domdaniel: <Defi> Are you <Chief Troublemaker> already? Uh-oh, I knew you'd carve your way to the top of the hierarchy once you really got going...

I'll take Strategy back after a move or two, if that's okay with you. For now I'd just like to carry on with a sort of freelance nuisance role...

Thanks. And of course you're doing great anyhow and don't need me telling you that...

Domdaniel: <Deffi> You're right, of course. Last thing I need is a Hitchcock-esque war with our feathered friends. I hereby make peace offerings to all birds, including eagles, ospreys, wrens, peahens, parrots, buzzards, robins and (gulp) larks.

This page is now a bird sanctuary. To put this another way, my forum is for the birds.

Domdaniel: <btw do you know your avtaar wears make up ?>

Do I _know_?? Do you have any idea how long I spend every morning, applying mascara and eyeliner with a trembling hand (not shown)??

In fact - originally, that is - the avatar was my joke-response to a kibitzer who posted something like "in the land of blind people is the one-eyed king"...

And if you can't be King, be Queen, I always say. Less risk of being mated.

Nov-03-06  technical draw: <Dom> A sanitary belt will help you with the early morning shakes.. (a sanitary belt is a shot of whiskey from a clean glass)

Domdaniel: OK, Tech, I'll take your word for that. But if you don't do some morning shakes, how do you get rid of the leeches? Shake, rattle, and roll them bones, I say...
Nov-03-06  twinlark: Back again from the teenage tarmac. Dom, at this rate you'll have to change your avatar to a night owl...you know about birds of a feather all get plucked together or something?

Domdaniel: Goshdarn it, it's 4.00am and that cheap mascara is glueing my old eyes shut. Better get some, ah, shut-eye - and hope it isn't permanent.

I can play our next four moves blindfold, but I'd better find a better solution by then...

Domdaniel: <Deffi> Ah. Oops. A Mel Brooks fan, are we? I liked Blazing Saddles, Silent Movie... even that StarTrekWars spoof... but I'd forgot old Louie. Bishop jump Queen, indeed. These prelates should stick to their own colours...

Hmm. Wonder if the bishopric color-complex thing is a profound chessic comment on the sectarian tendencies of Xtianity? Nah, too deep a question for the morning after the night before.

Crikey. I just caught myself counting characters, as if this was a text message and I was running out of space...

Message to brain: wake up at the back, there!

Nov-04-06  mack: Afternoon Dom. Just wondering if you had any games in this here database - if so I can slot you somewhere into my last two posts on my chessforum.
