Sep-13-22  thegoodanarchist: OK, looking at today's puzzle got me reading the game comments:

Tal vs NN, 1973

<kingscrusher> mentioned Nezhmetdinov, so I tried to find his player page here:

Player Directory

Not seeing it!

Is this one of the things that was deleted along with the purge of Rogoff's page? (Or maybe I'm just blind.)

  MissScarlett: Stockfish analysis function playing up, too. At least, I'm a getting a pending backlog of requests.
Sep-13-22  diceman: Are there playoff games that still need to be loaded in:

Sinquefield Cup (2022)

  MissScarlett: Say what you mean: <There are playoff games that still need to be loaded in.>

Also <Carlsen - Mamedyarov>. I had in mind that Mamedyarov had White, so there would be a move as in Fischer vs Panno, 1970, but I was mistaken.

I believe it's because the player doesn't have a rating.
You can also use Player Directory (Beta) to search for players.

<MissS>
It should be working again.
Let me know if you continue to have issues.

The problem isn't happening to me.
Was it happening to you?
If so, Is it still happening?

Not with social credit scores!

Sep-13-22  stone free or die: <steve> no, not me.

I was just calling your attention to the other user's post (since it was on a forum where you might not notice).

Seems like another user had similar experiences.

Ciao.

Sep-13-22  WinKing: I have been trying to update some material in my profile & keep getting a message that says '403 Forbidden'. Its not allowing me to make any changes.

Anyone down there know what would cause that? Your help would be appreciated, Thanks.

Sep-13-22  stone free or die: Also...

The https://www.chessgames.com/directory issue with Nezhmetdinov isn't quite as simple as his not having a rating. No player before the Hawkness (~1950?) or ELO (~1970) era had one.

E.g. neither Paul Morphy nor Adolf Anderssen do, and I got these links off the directory.

Oh wait, I just checked your beta-directory.

You don't mean a FIDE rating, but rather a <CG> rating.

Yes, both Morphy and Anderssen have a <CG> rating of 9000, Daniel's special code for a historically significant player, whereas Nez has rating 0. Someone should definitely give him a powerup.

* * * * *

BTW- the beta has some nice improvements, but it really needs to use the "collation"-name format, like the original <Player Directory> does. You know

<Last Name, First Name>

aka FIDE standard.

  stevemcd87: <WinKing>
Can you specify what material you were trying to add, please?
I'm attempting to recreate the problem.
I was able to add and remove features(ads) from my preference list and was able to update my profile bio(adding and removing the word "test").

<Chessical>
Can you specify what you try to update?
I was able to update the title and description of my game collection(adding and removing the word "test"), along with the reordering the games.

<chancho> Please let us know the steps you took to receive the error message.

Re <"403 Forbidden">:
Please be as specific as possible for the steps you took to get the error message so we can try to recreate the issue.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

<Tech savvy users> We recently began using an Elastic Load Balancer(ELB) service to handle our incoming traffic. The ELB is using a Web Application Firewall(WAF) which we associated rules with. The rules blocking the most requests are:
- AWSManagedRulesCommonRuleSet: Protection against common, but potentially high risk, vulnerabilities. More Info at https://docs.aws.amazon.com/waf/lat...
- AWSManagedRulesSQLiRuleSet: Blocks SQL injection attacks. More info at https://docs.aws.amazon.com/waf/lat...
- AWSManagedRulesAnonymousIpList: Blocks VPNs, proxies, Tor nodes, and hosting providers. More info at https://docs.aws.amazon.com/waf/lat...

There are other rules in place that may be responsible for these 403 errors. We are working on getting to the bottom of it. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Sep-13-22  WinKing: Hi <stevemcd87>. I keep track of the medal counts for contests we hold here at chessgames. Just trying to update those medal counts from a recent contest (Sinquefield) we held. I can't add, change or remove any info in my bio. keep getting the '403 Forbidden' message. Hope that helps.

  stevemcd87: Thanks for the help.
I believe it's due to a rule(SizeRestrictions_BODY) in a rule group(AWSManagedRulesCommonRuleSet) that's causing the issue. It currently has a maximum size of 8,192 bytes. Each character is approximately 1 byte.
I will figure out the best way to resolve this issue.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

There seems to be a new maximum size for comments, bios, collections, etc...
As a workaround, you might be able to post your article as 2 comments🤷‍♂️.

OK, and thank you, Steve McQueen, (loved you in <Papillion> btw) but won't that basically affect <every> player who played before FIDE ratings became a thing?

And also, why is this a new problem on cg.com? I've been on the website for almost 20 years, and this hasn't happened before, afaik.
