 | | OhioChessFan: Not a big deal, but irrespective of the grammar involved, "World Blitz Championship" sounds far better to my ear than "Blitz World Championship" |
Jan-30-19
 | | Tabanus: <minus the King Salman ones.> Including the King Salman ones, sorry. Since those are already "Blitz World". Plus Rapid World Championship (2013) So 12 events to change if "World Blitz/Rapid", 22 events if "Blitz/Rapid World". |
Jan-30-19 | | Nosnibor: <MissScarlet> Thomas Bumpus was resident in Royal Leamington Spa and travelled to Leicester to play his county matches. I am not certain to which public house he ran at that time. |
Jan-30-19
 | | Tabanus: CG has put his full name up so I posted some findings on his page Thomas Herbert Bumpus. A. A. Bumpus may be his father Alfred A. Bumpus. |
Jan-30-19
 | | OhioChessFan: Don't do it <Tab>....this isn't even close. Carlsen is the World Chess Champion, not the Chess World Champion. |
Jan-30-19
 | | Tabanus: <Ohio> I'm slightly in favor of "World Blitz/Rapid" but will leave it to <Annie>. Surely she can change her mind ;) As you say, no big deal. |
Jan-30-19
 | | OhioChessFan: "No big deal" was a purposeful understatement, which <JFQ> has called me out on previously. "Rapid World Championship" hurts my ears to think about. |
Jan-30-19 | | jith1207: Hi Editors, this great man is no more. Rest in Peace. Dragoljub Baretic I have commented on his profile page with an obituary link which has a little bio, which has some interesting info on one of the most talented blind chess players of all time. Please consider updating the bio with more information. |
Feb-03-19 | | ughaibu: It strikes me as rather a significant omission from Efim Bogoljubov 's player page, that he won the Bogoljubov - Euwe: First FIDE Championship (1928). |

 | | MissScarlett: <Attn. fellow Biographers and all and sundry: the user-submitted game uploads, and the handling of correction slips resume today. :) I thought you might like to know... ;)> I see no evidence of it. What is going off here? |
Feb-03-19 | | zanzibar: If things are "going off", I usually blame the off part of it on <offramp>. |
Feb-03-19
 | | Tabanus: I've had 6-7 slips (out of 140) processed this week-end. About 1 on player name, 2 on game type, 2 New Year events (19xx/x+1), 1 on default view. I suspect they are strugglig with how to do it, and don't want to make mistakes. |
Feb-03-19
 | | MissScarlett: So progress is somewhere between slothful and glacial. |
Feb-03-19 | | ughaibu: But, if it's a matter of corrections, it is logically impossible to make a mistake! |
Feb-05-19
 | | Phony Benoni: In my never-ending quest to avoid work of real importance, I have been preparing collections of games published in the American Chess Bulletin (of which a have a complete reprint edition). Volumes 1-10 (1904-1913) are done: Game Collection: American Chess Bulletin: Years Covered Games not yet in the database are given in the introduction for each collection.(That's why some years had to be split up; I've found an introduction can only contain about 100 games.) I'm still waiting to se what happens to the submitted games backlog, so I haven't submitted any of these games as yet. |
Feb-05-19 | | zanzibar: <Phony> have you determined the legacy status of all those unprocessed, unique, tournament bulletins you have? Just wondering. |
Feb-06-19
 | | Tabanus: CG recently processed my about 75 slips on game type for Women's World Championship Knockout Tournament (2015). These were rapid and blitz playoff games earlier dubbed as Classical. In the process they overlooked four: M A Gomes vs T Kosintseva, 2015 (Armageddon), E Paehtz vs M Arabidze, 2015 (Rapid), A Goryachkina vs L Mkrtchian, 2015 (Armageddon), M Muzychuk vs D Harika, 2015 (Rapid), and maybe I should rather send those slips again. Daniel added Armageddon to games earlier, perhaps that's more tricky. |
Feb-06-19
 | | Tabanus: <they overlooked four> Fixed, thanks. Unfortunately there are more such WC KO events with 70-80 game type errors in each. Affecting the stats. But I'll try to give CG a break. |
Feb-07-19
 | | Tabanus: "Edit standings" is not working any more. At least not for me. On http://www.chessgames.com/perl/edit... (which should be visible for editors), behind Tari it says "10 games" but clicking on "10 games" he has 9. Same for Notkevich. Christiansen, Djurhuus and Tallaksen: "9 games", I can see only 8. |
Feb-08-19
 | | Tabanus: And check out Kamsky vs S Yudin, 2018 : Right now (8 Feb 09:14) pgn has 1-0, CG has 0-1 (on top of diagram). Blitz World Championship (2018)/Gata Kamsky (Game 1) has 0-1. Kamsky had +9 -4 =8 (= 13/21) in the tournament, but "Edit standings" flags that as an error because it counts the erroneous pgn game result. The game was 0-1, but putting 0-1 to it did not give Kamsky 13/21. He has 13/21 now only because I gave him +9 -4 =8 in the Edit standings table. Q: what's going on, or should I back off? |
Feb-08-19
 | | Annie K.: <Tab> I'm going to let the Blitz/Rapid WC issue rest for a while, and get back to it later. I'm concentrating on the correction slips now... :) Took care of the Kamsky issue in the 2018 Blitz WC, and fixed the two duplicate players in the Nor-Ch. Let's see what the automatic scripts will manage to mend by tomorrow. |
Feb-09-19
 | | Tabanus: Good morning <Annie>, forgive me if I get upset but the "Edit standings" was always woking before. Kamsky game is fine now but there are several others, e. g. P Carlsson vs S Sjugirov, 2018 with 1/2 in pgn and 0-1 on top. I think the option to have two different game results should not exist! NOR-Ch 2018: The two players are fixed but it still counts 1 game too much for several players. E. g. on Tari: "10 games" but only 9 in db, and it flags +5 as an error. As if there is an invisible won game by him somewhere. Christiansen: +1 -1 =7 (= 4.5/9) is correct and not flagged as an error, but he has only 8 visible games. I think you have to just let the pgn's decide both the game results and the number of games. |
Feb-11-19
 | | Tabanus: Annie has now processed all of my 140 correction slips. Except one on Samuel Lipschutz --> Salomon, but I won't insist on it since there's no first hand info. At Last - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-c... |
Feb-11-19
 | | MissScarlett: This is clearly preferential treatment. Outrageous. I demand preferential treatment. |
Feb-11-19
 | | Tabanus: <Miss> Perhaps you mean the game uploads, I think she has not started on them yet. Not mine anyway. |
