rinus: Last Minute Gamblers are the best:

1000 on 17...Re8
100 on 17...Bf6

Nov-15-07  Waitaka: I voted 18.Bxg7+. Is there a way chessgames.com can unify Bxg7+ and Bxg7?
Nov-15-07  MarkThornton: I think <18. Bxg7+> is a bit of a no-brainer.
Nov-15-07  imag: <rinus> This 1000 was me :)
Nov-15-07  ChessNe1: <Waitaka>, good question. i think <Cg.com> will be on top of this one.

<Karpova> immortal friend of chessplayers, inscribe 18.Bxg7+ for me.

Mahalo nui.

  rinus: <imag> Dutch proverb:

'Hoogmoed komt voor de val'

Nov-15-07  imag: <rinus> Could you translate it for me?
Nov-15-07  ChessNe1: <imag> based on context i would say "good things come to those who wait". I don't know Dutch.

Nov-15-07  MostlyAverageJoe: <Waitaka: I voted 18.Bxg7+. Is there a way chessgames.com can unify Bxg7+ and Bxg7?>

They won't. The Chessgames Challenge Help says clearly: <Always use a "+" to indicate check, e.g. Bxh7+>. Yeah, so they used a wrong file in the example :-)

Whoever voted Bxg7 (there were 2 such votes moments ago) should change it to Bxg7+.

rinus: <imag> Not an exact translation but the meaning is about this:

Being too self-confident precedes the downfall.

Nov-15-07  zanshin: <'Hoogmoed komt voor de val'>

Pride comes before the fall?

WannaBe: Usually, I tend to trip, before the fall.
Nov-15-07  imag: I think that if we play 19.Rbc1 GMT will respond 19...Qf6. We should probably work on it because the vast majority of lines concentrate on 19...Qe7

<rinus> Thanks. I guess my downfall is imminent :)

Nov-15-07  ChessNe1: <Being too self-confident precedes the downfall.>

eww. not exactly, "nice going!". :-)

rinus: Your gambling downfall, not your chess-playing one.
Nov-15-07  zanshin: <rinus: Your gambling downfall, not your chess-playing one.>

<rinus> <imag> was just joking. You cannot bet more than 200 chessbucks on any single event. I tried. 17...Re8 was as close to a sure bet as I have seen in a long time.

Nov-15-07  imag: <zanshin> The amount of chessbucks you can bet on a single event depends on how much chessbucks you have. For example now I can bet up to 5000 chessbucks.

rinus: <zanshin> The best bet I can remember was on GMT's move 9; it was very sure after analysis, that he would NOT play 9...Qe8.

I made a bet on all the alternatives, but forgot 9...Kh8.

rinus: We still have at least 6 days to get our move 19 right.

Vote 18.Bxg7+.

Nov-15-07  zanshin: <rinus: I made a bet on all the alternatives, but forgot 9...Kh8.>

I lost that bet too.

<imag: The amount of chessbucks you can bet on a single event depends on how much chessbucks you have. For example now I can bet up to 5000 chessbucks.>

Really? I didn't know that ... shows how good I am at this game that the Chess bookie never let me bet more than $200 :-( So were you serious about the $1000 bet on GMT's last move?
