May-18-08  nothingness99: how about losers(Aronian and Bu) of this tournament? What you guys expect their ratings to be?
May-18-08  SetNoEscapeOn: <AdrianP><JoinTheArmy>

In terms of performance rating, it is one of the all time greats. In terms of achievement, I don't think it can be with Anand and Kramnik not playing.

May-18-08  SetNoEscapeOn: <Jim Bartle>

You're right, but with Topalov, Radjabov, and Aronian, I'd say it's an elite tournament (although obviously not the highest possible caliber because of the reason in my last post). But those guys are Corus A and Linares winners.

May-18-08  vanytchouck: Félicitations à Vassily pour sa superbe performance à Sofia.
May-18-08  wallytherhino: congrats to chuky for his outstanding performance. its been a while since he won a super tournament, but scoring 8/10 with an undefeated +6 makes up for the long wait.

May-18-08  cotdt: Ivanchuck will win his first supertournament in over a decade.

keypusher: Funny quote from Radjabov after Round 9 in the video: <After my unpleasant results with White in Baku, I decided with White I would try to equalize, and with Black I would try for something more.>

He was smiling when he said it, but after today's game with Topalov I am ready to believe him.

Where did people see the press conference with Ivanchuk after the tournament? I don't see it on the website.

May-18-08  dakgootje: That interview at chessvibes is great! XD

Also that interviewer around 3:40 that it may be worth his while... some really great accent... oh btw, a somewhat direct link to the vid:

http://www.chessvibes.com/tournamen...

May-18-08  dakgootje: actually, this should work as well as DIRECT link (vid in fullscreen without the rest of the page around):

http://blip.tv/scripts/flash/showpl...

not entirely sure for it might be only that that vid shows up for me for I've seen it before or something (cache-stuff... I think), so just in case it doesn't work, use the link in my previous post ;-)

May-18-08  wallytherhino: I need a translation on:

"Kos paare khaare 100 ta koon az 1 paache daadeye laantourie nane 1000 kire, kiram too pooste root."

and

"torke khar nane gayideh, binamus khayen, microbe to ro zayeh mikonam, ba bad kasi daroftadi!"

May-18-08  wallytherhino: How much wood would the woodchuck chuck if the woodchuck would chuck wood ? (Remember that song ?)
May-18-08  achieve: Heel mooi clipje <dak>

(very nice video dak)

May-18-08  Knight13: Bu beat Topalov? That's crazy!!
May-18-08  wallytherhino: "Heel mooi clipje" (German) = "Quite beautiful clip" (English)

<Knight13> Yes Bu beating Topalov was very unexpected

May-18-08  fromoort: <wallytherhino> "Heel mooi clipje" is Dutch, not German.
May-18-08  positionalgenius: Excellent performance from Ivanchuk but his competition wasn't on par with some of the other all-time tournament performance greats. Aronian's terrible play throughout was nothing short of shocking for me. It must be a mental thing-every time he crosses 2760 he performs terrible. <2006>-hit 2761,then performed horrible at dortmund <2008>-crossed 2760 again-2763-and did terrible.
May-19-08  mkrk17: Of late, the way Topa is playing (very shakily), it wont be difficult for Kamsky to defeat him in their match later this year.

Kamsky is getting stronger with every tournament, and Topa is getting shakier with every game he plays.

May-19-08  Pjalle: To see Aronian at -4 is very unexpected, what's up with that?
May-19-08  percyblakeney: <Of late, the way Topa is playing (very shakily), it wont be difficult for Kamsky to defeat him in their match later this year.>

I don't know if it will be that easy, after all Topalov scored +3 here and played quite well, while Kamsky had a minus score in the slightly weaker Baku tournament.
