Tabanus: What IS the shortest game to reach bare kings?
Apr-10-12  cro777: <What IS the shortest game to reach bare kings?>

The game (most probably beforehand agreed) Haimovich - Zifroni (Steinhart Memorial, Herzeliya, Israel 2006) lasted 17 moves.

1.c4 d5 2.cxd5 Qxd5 3.Qc2 Qxg2 4.Qxc7 Qxg1 5.Qxb7 Qxh2 6.Qxb8 Qe5 7.Qxc8+ Rxc8 8.Rxh7 Qxb2 9.Rxh8 Qxa2 10.Rxg8 Qxd2+ 11.Kxd2 Rxc1 12.Rxg7 Rxb1 13.Rxf7 Rxf1 14.Rxf8+ Kxf8 15.Rxa7 Rxf2 16.Rxe7 Rxe2+ 17.Kxe2 Kxe7 Draw

An antidote (or parody) for "no early draws" rule.

Apr-10-12  nummerzwei: Najer is now enjoying an unusual type of 'queenside majority' against Ovetchkin.
Apr-10-12  feitang: Impressive win by Wang Hao today!
Apr-10-12  Strongest Force: Did time pressure make Carjack's opponent flip-out? It looked like black was headed for at least a draw but he just bugged-out.

Tabanus: <cro777> That was clever :) I will not count it though.
Apr-10-12  Arcturar: Wang Hao's game was very good, and Morozevich bounced back with a fantastic victory against Javovenko as well. Karjakin keeping up good form.
Apr-10-12  cro777: <Tabanus: I will not count it though.> I would not too, but it IS the shortest game to reach bare kings. The other game that comes into consideration is Eva Maria Zickelbein - Heide Schultz (German Championship U20 Girls chess tournament, Magdeburg 1991) with 36 moves.

Here is another trivia connected with "no early draws" rule:

<What is the longest unclaimed repetition of the position?>

At the recent European Individual Championship in Plovdiv, just before the final round, the chief arbiter announced that short draws, even with a threefold repetition, would not be accepted (early draws, before 40th move, would be registered as losses).

As a consequence, GM Sebastien Maze and GM Ilia Smirin in the last round game <repeated the position 12 times>, but this is not the record (although they came pretty close to it).

Penguincw: Not all of the players are Russian. :-\
Apr-10-12  cro777: <Penguincw: Not all of the players are Russian.>

They are not but no more than three "foreigners" can be in the six playing on any given day. That's why Leko didn't play in Round 1, and Caruana in Round 2 (for their club ShSM-64 Moscow).

Apr-10-12  whiteshark: <cro777: <the chief arbiter announced that short draws, even with a threefold repetition, would not be accepted (early draws, before 40th move, would be registered as losses).>>

One might wonder what would have happened if there would have been a quick stalemate, as it has been shown/discussed here: J Hohmeister vs T Frank, 1993 ?? :D

Apr-10-12  kia0708: Natalia Zhukova is a talented, generous, cool-looking woman, I mean chess player, with an absorbing character !

Apr-11-12  Naniwazu: I like the Google translation of the official Russian site 'russiachess.org':

"Russian Team Championships for men and women will be in the loo from 8 to 16 April."

Apr-11-12  Strongest Force: The Fab-Carjack game pits 2 top ten players against each other today.
Apr-11-12  Layson: I wonder if what Svidler is playing is all home preperation. The engine is wrinkling its nose at every move he plays. But is looks potentially quite double edged.

Apr-11-12  hellopolgar: <Sutovsky 0:1 Morozevich>

Morozevich made Sutovsky look like a FM.

Troller: Round 4 is on, seems to have started earlier today?

Curiously, two high-profile matchups (<Karjakin-Svidler> and <Morozevich-Caruana>) have the same 4.Nf3 Bg7 5.Qb3 dxc4 6.Qxc4 0-0 7.e4 line in the Grünfeld.

Troller: After move 17, above-mentioned two games are still identical, Karjakin-Svidler having played 2 more moves though. Possibly barring Caruana, all 4 players seem to be out of prep now.

HeMateMe: This "Nzhetmidov Chess Club Kazan"--Isn't Kazan in central Asia, now outside the borders of Russia?
Apr-12-12  paavoh: @HeMateMe: <Isn't Kazan in central Asia, now outside the borders of Russia?> Actually, no. It is in the heartland of Russia - check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kazan
