European Team Championship (Women) (2001)

The 4th European Women's Team Championship was contested between 32 national teams at the Pabellón Municipal de Deportes in León, Spain, 6-15 November 2001, as a 9-round Swiss system tournament. It was organized by the Spanish Chess Federation and the European Chess Union (ECU). Rest day: 12 November (after Round 6). Each "team" consisted of two players plus one reserve. Russia and Armenia did not participate. Time control: 120 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 60 additional minutes for the next 20 moves, then 30 extra minutes to finish the game. Rounds 1-8 started at 3 pm local time, Round 9 at 9 am. Tournament director: D. Marcelino Sión Castro. Chief arbiter: Jesus Mena. Number of games played: 288.

France (Leconte, Sebag, Lallemand) surprisingly won with 12.5/18 game points. Moldova was 2nd on tiebreak (match points) ahead of England, both with 12/18. Board 1 gold medal: Ketino Kachiani-Gersinska (6.5/9). Board 2 gold medal: Marie Sebag (7/8).
