May-01-06  Atking: <EmperorAtahualpa: <Xaurus> I don't feel it's accurate to describe it as a 5.5-2.5 win for Carlsen.> True ! But even in the regular especialy the game 3, it was Carlsen who got the better chance. He was confident to win the match in tiebreaks and didn't push in the game 4 (Almost balanced until the end). The young norvegian is great indeed. I completly agreed with Gypsy. <Carlsen's chess is ... a joy. >
May-01-06  Xaurus: <The regular are the ones that truly count>For the ratings, sure, but to decide who won the match you have to count every point.

tamar: I agree with Emperor. Why do they need a tie-break? It is meaningless. They drew the match.

WannaBe: They had the tie-breaker so the chess bookie can make more 'juice'!
May-01-06  John Abraham: Very exciting match...tough, hard-fought games and a speedy blitz finish...in my opinion, this match could not have been any better!!
May-01-06  babakova: Many fighting games made for a great match, I agree.

lostemperor: When it came to blitz tie-breaker games I got a little of a bad feeling for van Wely. After all Magnus was the new blitz kid, who even beat Anand. Looking back, let's face it. It was Magnus "F1" Carlsen against Loek "Van" Wely :(.
May-02-06  twinlark: It shows the advantage that blitz tiebreakers can confer. In classical, there's little between the two, but in blitz Carlsen mopped the floor with van Wely. This probably affected Carlsen's strategy for the classical matches.

I agree with <tamar>, they drew the classical match, and Carlsen won the blitz match decisively.

The same will result in the WC if it goes to tiebreak.

May-02-06  olydream3: what is the time control for the blitz games?
May-02-06  erasmus: <olydream3> the time control for the blitz games were 5 minutes for the whole game with 2 seconds added per move.
May-02-06  Confuse: thats ridiculous, deciding a match based on those time controls... i feel bad for van wely : /

cu8sfan: <thats ridiculous, deciding a match based on those time controls... i feel bad for van wely> Just wait until the WORLD CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP gets decided by a ridiculous blitz (or armageddon) game... )-:
May-02-06  zabbura2002: The wonder boy had beaten Anand in Blitz (who we know is a great Blitz player).. Van Wely must be having a nightmare
May-02-06  Knight13: NOOOOOO! Van Wely lost!!! :(
May-03-06  GlennOliver: Please does someone have some informed analysis as to why game 8 is a White win ?

I can't find anything better for White than a draw, and even that is hard work.

All comments appreciated.

May-03-06  Phi: Are you talking about the 4th blitz game? Van Wely lost on time, the position was about equal. Van Wely needed much time because Carlsen put a lot of pressure on VW.

WannaBe: I've killed my previous post, for some reason, in MyChess viewer, black's pawns are not showing up. And I incorrectly analyzed the position.
May-04-06  tamino: Does anybody know if there is there any reports of this match in the news? (in english)
May-04-06  Xaurus: <tamino> Only one I found is this one, but you've probably read it already:

http://www.chessninja.com/dailydirt...

And also at chessbase.com but they only reported when they had played 2 rounds (1-1).

May-08-06  Xaurus: Great report from Chessbase today:

May-08-06  Confuse: poor van wely getting owned by his wife :[
<Even a 1500 player would have won this position!> women are scary.
May-08-06  John Abraham: It's always good to see pics of Marion van Wely...

Great Chessbase report!

May-09-06  Manuel G. Vergara: GM Magnus Carlsen will have a hard time beating 12 year old Filipino IM (Norm) Wesley So if they face each other! ill bet all my assets (hehe) against Carlsen, if a tournament will be organized for them!
May-25-06  Tariqov: <Glenn>Look at the kibitz in game 8.
Jun-25-06  GlennOliver: Tariqov, Phi,

Many thanks.

"For future reference", I'll look before I post. : )
