Check It Out: Naka's off to a roaring start.
Dec-14-12  Ezzy: A different type of prize to play for.

<Four GMs Will Compete for the Land on New Year's Eve

The website of Piterenka village located in Russia published information stating that the Central House of Chess will host a competition of 4 GMs on December 29. The main prize will be the land of ten hundred square metres in Piterenka village. "The names of the participants is kept in secret and will be announced on the website on December 25" - This is what the website says. However, as Chess-News has found out the list of participants is not a secret at all: Sergey Karjakin, Alexander Grischuk. Dmitry Jakovenko and Ian Nepomniachtchi - will compete for the land. They will play double round-robin rapid and blitz games. The winner will be determined by overall number of points.

The land of ten hundred square metres approximately costs 500,000 RUB.>

500,000 RUB is £10,000 or $16,000

Dec-14-12  Everett: <Ezzy> That is a remarkable story. Very curious... is the land contaminated? Are there zoning laws preventing anything worthwhile to be built there? A patron donation to the art of chess?
Dec-14-12  messachess: Here is my prediction: the match challenger for wc next cycle will come from China, and the next and the next. That many players showing this much talent already will be like the Russia of the old Soviet Union: nothing to do but play chess.
Dec-14-12  Ezzy: <Everett: Very curious... is the land contaminated?> Lol. Don't be so cynical :-)

Actually it seems to be in a holiday style village.

holiday village on the banks of river Piterenka in Moscow region.

Dec-14-12  Everett: <Ezzy> Indeed, I was being cynical.;-(

Good to hear it is something nice. I'll follow the links you provided. Thank you kindly.

Dec-14-12  Arcturar: Yeah...doesn't really look like Lev is sealing the deal. Clearly he is just out of form, rather than encountering continuous bad luck. I wish he had just taken a break rather than playing here...
Dec-15-12  chessmoron: Fressinet pressing Nakamura. Ding Wins against Leko.
Dec-15-12  hellopolgar: damn...nakamura didn't take the draw in a losing position and lost in the end.
Dec-15-12  kellmano: Aronian finishes almost last after a loss on bottom board to Shak in the last round. Naka victorious in the rapid section.

I believe there is some blitz and blindfold to come. Anyone know the scoring system or the schedule?

Dec-15-12  jamesmaskell: <kellmano> http://sportaccord2012.fide.com/en/...

Im not sure what the scoring is, whether it be a total score across all three disciplines or effectively three separate tournaments. Looking at last years event, Im guessing its three separate tournaments.
