Kibitzer's Corner
Nov-10-17  Black Thought: Erm,....

Anyone here,...?!

Nov-10-17  rokko: No. I am not interested in 20th century chess (when the clocks did not allow increments) and artificial suspense (flagging and mega-blunders).
Nov-10-17  john barleycorn: the champions showdown or the return of the Berlin defense?
Nov-10-17  PhilFeeley: Carlsen's not listed here but on the main page? Why?
Nov-10-17  scholes: Carlsen plays on different days
Nov-10-17  denopac: <No. I am not interested in 20th century chess (when the clocks did not allow increments) and artificial suspense (flagging and mega-blunders).>

Yeah, really. What's up with that? The web site brags <the games will be faster and more exhilarating for fans to watch>, but do we really need another Krush-Zatonskih, US Women's Championship (2008), with pieces flying at the end and a controversial finish? I realize there's less at stake here, but still....

Nov-10-17  ex0duz: Anyone know why Carlsen/Ding is starting later than the other matches?

And yeah. Any one have the links to the live video coverage for round 2 and more? IIRC, it was on youtube stream since i saw round 1.. but i forgot what channel. Thanks.

Nov-10-17  botvinnik64: So is getting hammered by Dominguez today. I don't know how Naka escaped in Rd. 7 to Topa, but Vesko looks scared of H-bomb.
Nov-10-17  Marmot PFL: Why do they play the same players every game instead of a RR? I would hate playing this format.
Nov-10-17  botvinnik64: Marmot:
Insane format; Rex and Co. getting desperate to promote chess. Hey, the winner gets $60k, the loser $40k, so who am I to talk - I'm just watching some guys making serious cash moving chess pieces really fast...
Nov-10-17  Marmot PFL: One problem is seeing the same positions over and over. Two matches feature the Berlin while the other is English type attack in Sicilian with early h5.
Nov-10-17  Marmot PFL: At the end of the day the quality level of the games dropped. Dominquez-So was an uneventful draw, but Topalov was up a piece for two pawns, missed winning chances and ended up losing (although Nakamura did a good job of complicating thing), and Caruana simply left his queen en pris.
Nov-10-17  jphamlore: Dominguez is simply an extremely strong player at rapid time control? I'm not sure why anyone would choose to tangle with him in a rapid match. I was sad he was not in this year's World Cup.
Nov-11-17  waustad: Carlsen was playing a big simul in Hamburg.
Nov-11-17  Marmot PFL: maybe Carlsen should play a 7-board simul here, could probably get a plus score.
