May-04-13 | | Sularus: rooting for Irina! |
May-04-13 | | Sularus: wow! only one draw out of five games so far! these women are vicious! :) |
May-04-13 | | OlafR: One american player in tournament... |
May-04-13 | | Agent Bouncy: Which one is the American player? If I understand your point of view, OlafR, I think you have to say there are no American players. But your post simply exhibits your ignorance because you don't know what an American is. |
May-04-13 | | bien pensant: By citizenship they are all definitely Americans. What he meant probably is that they do not carry American-sounding names, which suggests a different origin than the US. But if the implication is that immigrants from somewhere are not real Americans then the real Americans would probably be the descendants of the native American Indians who got here first before the European colonizers. In which case, maybe Irina Krush would be it, since she--of all the participants--has a name closest to a native Indian name. |
May-04-13 | | hms123: I agree with <bien pensant>, but will add that according to their biographies on this site, both <Chiang> and <Kats> were born in the US. |
May-04-13 | | Blunderdome: They are all equally American :) |
May-05-13 | | Harvestman: The big game Zatonskih vs Krush is today. |
May-05-13 | | Just Another Master: Go Alena, I really hope she becomes the next Chess Life cover girl, damn where were women like that when I was playing? woooooooooooooooooooooo! |
May-05-13 | | Illogic: <The big game Zatonskih vs Krush is today.> And Krush played the King's Indian! Nice! |
May-05-13
 | | HeMateMe: Z and Irina are the two favorites. They have been heavy rivals, in this event. |
May-05-13 | | Shams: Krush just pulled out the sledgehammer! <50...Ng4> in time trouble was a very unhappy development for Anna Z. |
May-05-13 | | kenkur: Although OlafR's (and other similar) comments sound awkwardly anti-immigrant and racist, I suspect the point they are trying to make is that few if any of the top U.S. women players developed their chess skills there. Notwithstanding programs, like Susan Polgar's, to develop more and stronger women players, both the U.S. and my country Canada continue to rely predominantly on 'imports' for their top female chess talent. Not an ideal situation. |
May-05-13 | | Illogic: Krush wins with a devastating knight sac. Great game, and having defeated her rival with black, she's well in control of the tournament now. |
May-05-13 | | schweigzwang: One draw per round. Nice. |
May-06-13 | | DrAttitude: I love these players they fight! |
May-07-13 | | Blunderdome: <kenkur> On the contrary, I think people from around the world wanting to become Americans <is> an ideal situation. If talented people stop coming here, that's when I'll be worried. |
May-07-13 | | weisyschwarz: Irina Krush is on a ripping pace. Safe English Opening today, allowing for no upset. Go Irina! |
May-07-13
 | | HeMateMe: Do the women have a "Fischer Prize" too, $$ for a perfect tournament? |
May-07-13 | | parmetd: No they do not because it would be way too easy for them to achieve it. |
May-07-13
 | | HeMateMe: When has their been a perfect score on the women's side? |
May-07-13 | | Kaspablanca: That`s what i like about women chess, they play to win, they dont fear to lose points. |
May-07-13
 | | HeMateMe: Has Susan Polgar ever played in the USA women's closed championship? |
May-07-13 | | Petrosianic: <HeMateMe>: <When has their been a perfect score on the women's side?> Mona Karff did it at least once. Rachel Crotto came within a half point of doing it. |
May-09-13
 | | HeMateMe: Irina is 5-0. New breakfast cereal? |
