Penguincw: And Nakamura wins the blitz event as well. Can he complete the hat trick/sweep by winning the main event?

Penguincw: Correction: Nakamaura wins the blitz event, but shares 1st with 2 others players (I think).
Dec-08-14  MarkFinan: Giri did great too, he picked up points with the black pieces. And look who's bottom of the table? The CC era is over before it began, lol. I'm starting to dislike Carlsens style in matches but credit where it's due. He still crushes all competitors, he wins by any means, and whilst that's not too pleasing on the chess fans eye he's still the best player since Kasparov.
Dec-08-14  john barleycorn: <Penguincw: And Nakamura wins the blitz event as well.> ?

Kramnik, also has +5 -3 =2 according to chessbomb.

Dec-08-14  john barleycorn: Adams also +5 -3 =2

Hey, Mark that is an english guy !!!

Caruana's always been relatively weak at blitz. I don't know how you can infer from that that he'll do badly in classical, though...

Dec-08-14  fgh: Isn't there a round missing?

Yes, the decisive 10th round hasn't been uploaded yet.

Dec-08-14  MarkFinan: Jay- B. As you know he's our only real chess player, Jones is Welsh, and Short?? He's an embarrassment in my eyes.
Dec-08-14  Nf8: Adams was declared the winner according to tiebreak (head-to-head results between the leaders), Nakamura 2nd, Kramnik 3rd.

Dec-08-14  john barleycorn: Mark, just get to speed with the Carlsen App and I'll put my money on you. :-)

Imagine <Mark "the black death" Finan>.

Dec-08-14  MarkFinan: Absentee.. Blitz to me is 5 minute stuff, I have to be honest and say I'm not sure what time limit these guys play blitz at!? Carlsen, and *all* the other top players can still beat "ordinary" GM's when they have 120 seconds on the clock! But fair dos, Caruana may not be a blitz player, but I'm still saying that he's just not ready for Carlsen. If Anand isn't ready, and IMO he's the best of the rest, Caruana certainly isn't ready. After watching those WCC matches I finally realized what Carlsen does to his opponents, it's not pretty but it's effective and he's in a league of his own. Although at one point I *really* wanted Anand to thrash him, I have a lot of respect for Anand now.
Dec-08-14  MarkFinan: Jay- B. I have the Thomas Holm app to master first, slow down I'm not ready for Maggerz, lol
Dec-08-14  me to play: <MarkFinan> How do you feel about Luke McShane ? Seems like a decent fellow and is certainly quite a strong player.

MissScarlett: Only 4 draws from 30 games.
Dec-08-14  MarkFinan: Me to play... Good question mate, although I can't really comment because I'm not familiar with any of his games or the way he plays. I've seen him do okay in tournaments, he's still relatively young for a chess player, he's obviously one of our best players because he makes the Olympiads year after year, but he's hardly going to challenge the top players. We have no *great* chess players, we never have really. I'm English and love football so I'm used to it, lol.

Penguincw: Wow. Only 4 draws in the entire tournament, and none of them belong to Caruana! Unfortunately, he ends up in last place.

MissScarlett: After the last round, you could hear the players chatting on the live feed. Referring to the three-way tie for first, Anand said something like. 'How did that happen?', to which Giri replied, 'I lost three games in a row.'
Dec-08-14  fisayo123: It's blitz so low draw count is not really surprising.

That must really suck for Giri.

Standings after 7 rounds (or 3 rounds to go):

1. Giri 5.5
2. Nakamura 4.5
3. Adams 3.5
3. Kramnik 3.5
5. Anand 2
5. Caruana 2

But it's blitz. Anything can happen.

Sally Simpson: The time used was 4 minutes + 2 seconds.

The players got 3 pts for a win and 1 pt for a draw - nothing for a loss. So the most a player could score if he won all his games was 30 pts.

Adams 17/30
Nakamura, 17/30
Kramnik, 17/30

Giri 16/30

Anand 10/30

Caruana, 9/30

Dec-09-14  starry2013: Michael Adams has been British no1 and has been near the top of the game for much of the last quarter century and yet he's hardly known in his own country. In that circumstance you can't really expect a flourishing of chess talent, it's simply too low profile.
Dec-09-14  anandrulez: Anand +3 -6 =1 ? Atleast no draws ! Way to go :-) .
