May-23-08  Argentino: where is Anton Kovalyov? The new Argentinian chess prodigy?
May-23-08  ConLaMismaMano: As i mentioned a week or so ago, Kovalyov at 16 became the youngest GM ever from Argentina (Anton Kovalyov), beating the records of Panno and Spangenberg (both at 18). He's currently competing in tournaments around Europe.
May-23-08  Youjoin: Today pairings (games are starting):

1 LEMOS, Damian 2458 : ALONSO, Salvador 2420

2 LIASCOVICH, Lucas 2419 : RICARDI, Pablo 2515

3 SALGUERO, Francisco 2320 : FELGAER, Ruben 2574

4 REAL DE AZUA, Ernesto 2417 : LUCONI, Cristian 2306

5 FLORES, Diego 2548 : PERALTA, Fernando 2546

6 VALERGA, Diego 2482 : MAHIA, Gustavo 2433

May-23-08  Augalv: Current Argentine champion Fernando Peralta put up a good performance when he won the last Argentine Championship in 2006.

May-24-08  17.Bxg7: What I found surprising in <chessgames.com> is that there is a link for the Argentinean championship, but there is no link for the Bosna Sarajevo tournaments which includes some of the best players in the world and there wasn't a link for the Capablanca Memorial two weeks ago.

On the other hand, it is nice tha there are people in <chessgames.com> willing to follow local championships, often forgotten by the masses on the internet. In this particular case, despite the fact they barely have one player who has been over 2600, the field of this championship is fairly strong of a national tournament. In Latin America, only Cuba surpasses Argentina in this aspect.

May-24-08  Augalv: Does anybody know why Zarnicki is not playing?
May-24-08  Augalv: Yesterday's results (round 4)

Diego Valerga 1-0 Gustavo Mahia
Ernesto Real de Azua 1-0 Cristian Luconi
Diego Flores 1-0 Fernando Peralta
Pablo Ricardi 1-0 Lucas Liascovich
Salvador Alonso 1/2-1/2 Damian Lemos
Francisco Salguero 1/2-1/2 Rubén Felgaer

May-24-08  Augalv: <17.Bxg7: What I found surprising in <chessgames.com> is that there is a link for the Argentinean championship, but there is no link for the Bosna Sarajevo tournaments which includes some of the best players in the world and there wasn't a link for the Capablanca Memorial two weeks ago>

There are <17.Bxg7>

Bosnia Sarajevo Tournament and Bosnia Sarajevo Tournament (group B)

But as you say there is no link of last Cuban Memorial. There is last year's memorial's link though. I wonder why the 43rd cuban memorial wasn't put up on Cg.com this year.

May-25-08  Youjoin: Seven players tied for first (3/5) after the 5th round.
May-26-08  Augalv: Standings after round 6

1 FELGAER, Ruben 4.0
2 RICARDI, Pablo 4.0
3 VALERGA, Diego 4.0
4 SALGUERO, Francisco 3.5
5 ALONSO, Salvador 3.5
6 PERALTA, Fernando 3.0
7 LEMOS, Damian 3.0
8 FLORES, Diego 3.0
9 REAL DE AZUA, Ernesto 3.0
10 MAHIA, Gustavo 2.5
11 LIASCOVICH, Lucas 2.5
12 LUCONI, Cristian 0.0

May-26-08  nomaster: <Augalv>, Zarnicki plays very little competitive chess nowadays, if any.
May-26-08  Augalv: Thanks.
May-28-08  Youjoin: Felgaer is in the lead with 5,5 points after round 8.
May-29-08  Augalv: I hope Ruben wins the tournamet and to see him in the 2600 league again.
May-29-08  minasina: If anyone knows where can find PGNs for Cuban Memorial 2008, please tell it to admins: chessgames.com chessforum
May-29-08  Youjoin: Felgaer defeated Peralta in the 9th round. He´s the sole leader with 6,5 points, with two rounds to go. Tomorrow he´ll face Luconi, that has lost his nine games.
May-31-08  Youjoin: But he lost to the underdog Luconi and now Flores reached him. Today is the last round.
Jun-01-08  Youjoin: Felgaer is the new champion. He had better tie-breaks than Valerga and Peralta, all tied with 7 points. Diego Flores was a few moves from being the champion, but he blundered incredibily in his game against Real de Azua and finished in 5th place.
Jun-01-08  Augalv: Congrats Ruben!
