Jun-25-07  DUS: <gmgomes> Regarding your other posting, here is what I posted yesterday. I guess again we say about the same thing: <... All players here are former big names. The most famous perhaps is Lajosh Portisch.>
Jun-25-07  percyblakeney: Portisch did quite well earlier this year in Gausdal, behind only Carlsen but a point ahead of Dreev and even with Krasenkow (the latter were both 2650+ then).
Jun-25-07  gmgomes: <DUS> you are right; big names - hard to say which one was best.

Peak Average Ratings: 3 year peak range (Chessmetrics)

#43 Alexander Beliavsky
#44 Jan Timman
#46 Lajos Portisch
#48 Rafael Vaganian
#61 Ulf Andersson
#74 Andrey Sokolov
#79 Alexander Khalifman
#81 Zoltán Ribli
#82 Henrique Mecking

Jun-25-07  gmgomes: <Portisch did quite well earlier this year in Gausdal, behind only Carlsen but a point ahead of Dreev and even with Krasenkow (the latter were both 2650+ then).> he could have drawn against Magnus, he blundered in the end.
Jun-25-07  DUS: <chessgames.com> There are mistakes in the table. It is impossible to have played 11 games, as Ribly, Portisch, and Chiburdanidze.

Vaganian-Ciburdanidze is listed twice. Vaganian has 6/9, not 6.5/10. Obviously some other games are listed twice as well.

Jun-26-07  Davolni: All players are supposed to have equal amount of games, aren't they? How can one have 9 games, and one 10? something must be not right.

Who was Nalbandian F.? The other day, at the live games, he was playing against somebody. Anybody knows anything?

Jun-26-07  Karpova: <Davolni>
There's an individual rest day for each player. Chiburdanidze for eaxample didn't play in the first round. And it seems as if Portisch would have a rest day in the last round.

The <other> live game seems to be from the Open.

Jun-26-07  waddayaplay: <DUS>yes some games are listed twice. I have found these.

Ribli vs Portisch, 2007 and Ribli vs Portisch, 2007

Vaganian vs Chiburdanidze, 2007 and Vaganian vs Chiburdanidze, 2007

Timman vs Chiburdanidze, 2007 and Timman vs Chiburdanidze, 2007

Jun-26-07  gmgomes: Last Round: Fighting for 1st prize on board 1: Khalifman x Vaganian - I do not know what happens in case of draw. on board 2, the fight for third - Mecking x Beliavsky, Beliavsky is 1/2 point ahead, so he is playing for a draw. on Board 4, Ribli and Andersson will fight to see who will offer the draw first.
Jun-26-07  khursh: LoL

<<gmgomes:>...will fight to see who will offer the draw first.>

Jun-26-07  percyblakeney: Suba-Chiburdanidze draw in 11 moves, Chiburdanidze scored 10 draws and blundered away the 11th against Khalifman.
Jun-26-07  gmgomes: After 16. Nh2, Khalifman keeps some edge in the opening; Mecking x Beliavsky is still oppenning book, altough Beliavsaky is taking a long think after 12. O-O Timman x Sokolov is wild sicilian.
Ribli x Andersson are on move 10, they will agree a draw any moment, specially after Board 5 had a 20 min. draw with 11 moves;
Jun-26-07  percyblakeney: My guess is 12 moves in Ribli-Andersson.

Troller: <percyblakeney> Don't be too bold. They're already at move 11.
Jun-26-07  percyblakeney: Andersson taking a deep think on his eleventh.
Jun-26-07  gmgomes: Andersson usually trade queens before drawing, so white will play 12. b3, then white will move the N at move 13, Ulf will trade and draw will be agreed at move 14.
Jun-26-07  gmgomes: I think Mecking has an edge in time for the first time at this tournament, let´s see if he will keep it.
Jun-26-07  percyblakeney: Mecking had a bad start but has gone +2 after round three.
Jun-26-07  gmgomes: My engine believes Vaganian is toast after 18.... Ne5

  Troller: Yep, Vaganian has resigned.

< gmgomes: Andersson usually trade queens before drawing, so white will play 12. b3, then white will move the N at move 13, Ulf will trade and draw will be agreed at move 14. > Nice prediction, except they are still playing at move 16. Will Ulf undertake a marathon game of 20 moves today?

Jun-26-07  VargPOD: Khalifman beat Vaganian in just 21 moves, I'm impressed. Also surprising is that Ribli and Andersson are still playing, it's already 16 moves.
Jun-26-07  percyblakeney: Ribli seems to be in a bloodthirsty mood today, Andersson's position looks uncomfortable.

Troller: Yes, this is sensational. Will the 28-game drawing streak between Andersson and Ribli be brought to an end?
Jun-26-07  percyblakeney: <the 28-game drawing streak between Andersson and Ribli>

Indeed a fascinating score between those two: +0 -0 =28 before today...

Troller: Draw agreed. Moving on to +0 -0 =29
