  Stonehenge: So it's Svidler-Milov at 09.00EST.
Feb-05-09  amadeus: Milov is a good rapid player: he won a minimatch against Anand a couple of years ago (Corsica 2005).

Stonehenge: <Peter Svidler plays off with Vadim Milov at 15:00 GMT+1 for first prize. The time limit will be 10 minutes + 10 seconds per move, two games played. If still tied, they play two further games at 7 minutes plus 7 seconds, with colours alternating between games 2 and 3. Then Armageddon - White has 5 minutes, Black 4, with Black having needing at least a draw.>

  moronovich: <Milov - Svidler> In game 1.
Feb-05-09  paavoh: <amadeus> I think Svidler will still be better in rapid and blitz, he has done well in tough tournaments such as Mihail Tal Memorial.
Feb-05-09  Mulyahnto: Milov-Svidler (game 1): 0-1
Feb-05-09  Mulyahnto: Svidler made it look easy in the end game of game 1.

moronovich: Soon it will be 0-1.

Good thing about it : black will be forced to go all out in the second game. But extremly difficult with a player of Svidlers calibre.

Feb-05-09  Mulyahnto: where are you watching it? This game ended 5 minutes ago. It's live at: http://www.gibraltarchesscongress.c...
Feb-05-09  paavoh: Seems to me Milov could have put pressure on the f7 pawn around move 24 and forced a draw. Anyone with comp analysis on this stage of the game?

moronovich: <paavoh> Yes , he should have tried that.
Feb-05-09  DCP23: Svidler goes through a bunch of 2600+ rated GMs like a hot knife through butter. Looks like just another Bunratty for him.
Feb-05-09  malthrope: <DCP23: Svidler goes through a bunch of 2600+ rated GMs like a hot knife through butter. Looks like just another Bunratty for him.>

I was just about to add if <DCP23> were here he would say... However, I must admit the term 'Bunratty' didn't occur to me! ~lol~ <grin> ;)

Feb-05-09  acirce: Time to congratulate Svidler very soon.

moronovich: Best quess : soon it will be ½-½ offered by Svidler in a superior pos.
Feb-05-09  amadeus: I think Milov wants to lose this game.

moronovich: And I think <amadeus> is thinking with another bodypart than Milov ...:)
Feb-05-09  Karpova: Svidler won
Feb-05-09  amadeus: Well, one can't blame Milov for trying... Congrats to Svidler!
Feb-05-09  malthrope: <acirce: Time to congratulate Svidler very soon.>

Indeed! <amadeus> was right - Congrats Svidler! :))

Feb-05-09  DCP23: <malthrope> lol!

<moronovich: Best quess : soon it will be ½-½ offered by Svidler in a superior pos.>

Good guess, but Svidler actually won the second game too, for 2-0.

Feb-05-09  Marmot PFL: Svidler always seemed like a very good guy, for a GM.
Feb-05-09  dumbgai: I thought Milov could have tried a more aggressive opening in the second tiebreak game. From a worse position he tried attacking in the center and it didn't work at all.
Feb-05-09  paavoh: " ... a hot knife through butter.." It looked exactly like that - Svidler proved to be a monster in rapid/blitz - again!
