Reykjavik Open (2008) |
Dedicated to the recently deceased Robert James Fischer, the 23rd Reykjavik Open was a 91-player 9-round Swiss tournament held at the Reykjavik Chess Center, Faxafen 12, 108 Reykjavik, Iceland, 3-11 March 2008. It was organized by the Icelandic Chess Federation. Time control: 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 15 more minutes to the end of the game, with 30 seconds added per move from move 1. Rounds started at 5 pm - week-end rounds 6 & 7 at 2 pm. First prize: 8.000 USD, 2nd prize 5.000 USD, 3rd prize 3.000 USD. Tournament director: Asdis Bragadottir. Chief arbiter: Pall Sigurdsson. Number of games played: 402. Wang Hao beat Stefansson (2nd) and Wang Yue (3rd) on tiebreak, all three with 7/9.
