Jan-28-16  JohnBoy: Sevian is doing quite well - certainly playing beyond his rating.
Jan-28-16  belgradegambit: Yes, after a very slow start Sevian starting to pile up wins.

perfidious: It may well be rough sledding when the lad faces Dreev and Adhiban, though.
Jan-29-16  JohnBoy: Indeed, <perf>. Looks like Dreev was kind of a brick wall for the kid.

WannaBe: If Dreev and Adhiban end in a tie score, Adhiban would win on head-to-head tie breaker.
Jan-29-16  Mr. V: Yes, but the top two will likely both get invited to the Tata Steel A Group next year.

Furthermore, it looks like Dreev might have it easier with his schedule the last 2 games.

Jan-29-16  Mr. V: Unfortunately for my guy, Safarli will have to face Nisipeanu with Black. His chances of even getting 2nd place look slim :(
Jan-29-16  Mr. V: My mistake, Safarli will have White against Nisipeanu.
Jan-30-16  JohnBoy: Sevian has come to a complete halt - and has to face Adhiban. Good luck!
Jan-30-16  dumbgai: Haast is 12/12 at decisive games. Unfortunately for her, most of those haven't gone her way.

Penguincw: < dumbgai: Haast is 12/12 at decisive games. >

Wow, impressive. Much better than Nisipeanu, who's only 2/12 (j/k).

Penguincw: 3-way race heading into the final round. Important R13 games:

Batsiashvili (5) - Safarli (8)
Sevian (6) - Adhiban (8.5)
Admiraal (4) - Dreev (8.5)

All have black, but it looks like Dreev is mostly likely to win his game, followed by Safarli then Adhiban.

Jan-30-16  waustad: If there is a tie, the tiebreak rules for who goes to the next Masters group can be found at the bottom here: http://www.tatasteelchess.com/docs/...
Jan-31-16  dumbgai: And Haast completes the clean sweep: 13/13 decisive games. Would have been impressive if not for the 11 losses.
Jan-31-16  chesslearner1991: So, who qualifies for next year? Safarli, Dreev, Adhiban?
Jan-31-16  siamesedream: Congratulations to GM Baskaran Adhiban for winning Tata Challengers 2016
Jan-31-16  sac 4 mate: <So, who qualifies for next year? Safarli, Dreev, Adhiban?>

The first tiebreak is points in games between the players in question, and Adhiban won against both the others, so if there's only one spot on offer, he should get it.

Jan-31-16  jith1207: Adhiban definitely qualifies for 2017 Tata Steel Masters, due to his head-to-head wins over Safarli and Dreev. It is not clear to me if 2 top players from this tournament qualifies for next year Masters, we will have to wait and see the official word on that.
Jan-31-16  dumbgai: Adhiban will have his work cut out for him in next year's A group, but you can't say he hasn't earned it.

An Englishman: Good Afternoon: 3 players finish at +5. 2 finish at +1. 5 finish at =0. I don't recall seeing that sort of cross table before.

HeMateMe: maybe Wely could play in the B group next year and let one of the outstanding Dutch émigrés get a spot in the top section?
Feb-01-16  mike1: I think it is great news that Tata confirmed next years event already. Not the best of all times for this group of companies; so we have to applaud them for keeping it up!
Feb-03-16  Pinkerton: No draws. :)

eternaloptimist: I really admire Anne Haast's attitude towards playing chess. She had a bad tournament & finished in last place but she didn't agree to any quick draws. Although she did win 2 games. Too often we see chess masters agree to quick draws & they don't even try to win. Of course sometimes it's wise to agree to a draw but I think she's smart enough to know when to agree to a draw & when she should show a good "work ethic" & play on. I think she will continue to improve & her rating will continue to go up for the next several years b/c of the time & effort she puts into chess. It was also good to see that Dreev (1 of my favorite players) had a really good tournament!
Aug-15-16  Mr. V: It would be great if they reserved 3 spots for these winners in the Group A tournament next year. It would make things much more interesting.
