The 23rd European Team Championship was a 9-round Swiss system tournament held at Hotel Toplice (of the Terme Catez Spa Complex) in Brezice, Slovenia, 12-21 November 2021. It was organized by the Slovenian Chess Federation and European Chess Union (ECU). Rest day: 17 November (after Round 5). Thirty-nine national teams competed with four players each (plus one reserve). The players received 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 30 more minutes to the end of the game, with 30 seconds added per move starting from move 1. No draw offers allowed before move 31. Tournament director: Nina Rob. Chief arbiter: Panagiotis Nikolopoulos. Number of games played: 684. Ukraine (Korobov, Volokitin, Kuzubov, Shevchenko, Onyshchuk) won on tiebreak ahead of France, both with 14/18 match points. Poland was 3rd on tiebreak over Spain, both with 13/18 match points. Unfortunately, Ukraine no longer has any players that are invited to top tier tournaments. It has no 2700 rated player. Perhaps Kirill Shevchenko now 19 can rise to chess elite. He has the right last name to represent Ukraine. |
