MissScarlett: Games not showing because the FENs have strings like DAda, GAga and HAha, although no CAca.

Well, it's 960, and so ordinary FEN is inadequate for the PGN setup - the position of the rooks must be recorded.

It appears that Shredder-FEN is being used:

< For the traditional setup, Shredder-FEN would use AHah instead of KQkq.>

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forsy...

The PGN should almost mark the game as 960, via something like this:

<[Variant "Chess960"]>

Or FischerRandom, or .... (something).

Sep-16-22  stone free or die: FWIW - I think Olga will have trouble handling 960 games. I know SCID does too.

The castling business being the expected hangup.

MissScarlett: PGN viewer <pgn4web> (available from the pulldown menu) to the rescue.

<pgn4web is a javascript chess games viewer for websites, blogs and live broadcasts.

"pgn4web has a clean design, and is easily integrated and configured in wordpress. And yet, below that layer of simplicity, it has enough bells and whistles to allow for more baroque needs and taste. A truly great plugin." GM Tiger Hillarp, using the pgn4web plugin for wordpress on his site chess at the bag of cats, May 2013.>

That's exactly what's happening, I wasn't suppose to create this event. I spoke with <steve> to see if we can get it to work anyways. If you look at the first game:

Svidler vs Nepomniachtchi, 2022

The castling is what's giving us trouble. We are trying to get it to work but if unsuccessful we might have to delete it.

MissScarlett: P+2 odds games don't work with Olga either, but they're still here.

MissScarlett: Kasparov 0-8 after 8 rounds. Has Svidler with White in last round.

Check It Out: Kasparov finally got a draw in round 9 against Svidler. I get the sense that was meant to happen.

Dionysius1: <Atterdag: Love this format. Opening theory is useless, you have to get by with your own pure talent.>

I don't as a kibitzer, exACTly because I have to rely on my own talent to understand the games.

And that doesn't work until well into what would normally be the middle game (maybe around 20 or so) when positions seem reasonably normal and I can apply my small stock of general principles and tactics.

More power to kibitzers who can understand them earlier!

HeMateMe: can CG.com fix it so that the moves are shown?
Sep-17-22  tuttifrutty: < Sep-16-22 thebully99: When was the last time Wesley So won a chess960 event?> He is the reigning 960 Champion. He showed Magnus who is the boss. 13.5-2.5.

The 9lx is just a backyard barbecue chess games. Nothing more, nothing less. :)

Sep-17-22  Cassandro: <tutti fruity> Yes, but in the quarterfinals (played online) leading up to that final that was eventually played between So and Carlsen in Norway, Wesley was crushed by Nakamura, losing 9-3, and only progressed through repechage, you know, "lucky loser" sort of thing. So he didn't really deserve to be in that final in the first place, if you ask me. Pampered goldfish stuff.

Atterdag: Huge congratulations to Fabiano Caruana, winning the Armageddon against the equally admirable Firouzja. The tie-breaker was 1-1.

After so many less satisfying results of late I am delighted for him and this victory.

Mamedyarov and Nepo were just half a point behind and then there was a gap of 1.5 points to W. So, 5th.

Sep-17-22  tuttifrutty: Wesley qualified and so did Magnus. The results is a testimony that he beat Magnus fair and square. No questions asked.
Sep-17-22  thebully99: < tuttifrutty:>

9LX is the only chess960 supertournament and possibly qualifies you for the chess960 championship, so it's not really "backyard barbecue". That's like dismissing the Candidates tournament as an irrelevant "nothing more, nothing less" for classical chess.

Wesley has not won any of the 3 chess960 events that occurred after 2019. 2020 was won by Magnus/Hikaru, 2021 by Leinier, 2022 by Fabiano/Alireza. And recently his playing form has been off too. I wouldn't bet him as a clear favorite next month (although I don' think there are any favorites in chess960).

Sep-17-22  stone free or die: <HeMateMe: can CG.com fix it so that the moves are shown?>

One can always use the <PGN "view"> button to see the moves in the PGN.

A better option here is to use <pgn4web> as the default PGN viewer though - it can handle chess960 games (unlike Olga).

Atterdag: <thebully99> All very true, of course, but you should know by now that you are trying to convince a notorious facts-resistant person.

perfidious: 'Facts-resistant' is a considerable understatement.
Sep-18-22  ndg2: Will Garry play in another 960 showdown? Maybe he should be happy with the half point (out of nine games) and call it a day?
Sep-18-22  whiteshark: So <the Cheater> wasn't invited....
