Dec-05-04  iron maiden: Stripunsky's resigned. Congratulations to the new U.S. champion!
Dec-05-04  suenteus po 147: Nakamura is the new US Champion of chess! I'm watching the the 11 o'clock news tonight, baby!
Dec-05-04  stormflyer: Yes, Nakamura has won, according to the US Chess Championship official website. I'm happy that he won, but he was very lucky against Ibragimov.

  tpstar: <Morphy Fan> You're right, Black should try to keep material on the board being a Pawn down. After 29. Rc3 Nb5 probably 30. Rxc8 Qxc8 31. Qc4 Qd8 31. Ra4 followed by 32. Qc6 and Black's Knight is short on squares. Good suggestion.
Dec-05-04  Franz the Stampede: GO NAKA!!!!!!!
Dec-05-04  pkjohn146: Naka wins!!!
Dec-05-04  Where is my mind: excellent play from Hikaru Nakamura.
It's great to witness the beginging of
such a talented players career.
Dec-05-04  PeterFletcher: The kid's a little big on himself (per the interview on chesscafe.com), but he's good. To be 16 and to be the U.S. Champion (+ $25,000 USD), that's not too shabby!

I saw him play an endgame at the World Open (2004); he was amazing -just knocking out moves like there's no tomorrow.

But you have to be a little arrogant to play winning-chess: no guts, no glory!

Dec-05-04  whiskeyrebel: I thought he came off well in the interview. It doesn't seem like he's been overly pushed into devoting his life to chess unlike some young players. I saw him at another swiss tournament..and he didn't come across like Beavis or Butthead at all. I'm a solid Nakamura fan from here on out...where can I order a T-shirt??
Dec-05-04  DanielBryant: I wish I had $25,000 USD.
Dec-05-04  JohnBoy: About 25 yrs ago the top US woman was Diane Savereide. Low master. What ever happened to her? Retired from play?
Dec-05-04  SBC: <JohnBoy>
<About 25 yrs ago the top US woman was Diane Savereide. Low master. What ever happened to her?>

I've never been able to find much on her. Here's what I learned: http://batgirl.atspace.com/Savereid...

There is a Diane Savereide who plays different games over the internet, though not chess that I've seen. I don't know if it's the same person.

Dec-06-04  haha: So the Tournament it's over? :?
Dec-06-04  pazzed paun: YES -the tournament is over for now,but go to the offical site and at the very bottom is a crosstable with performance ratings- very impressive performances by Stripunsky and Bercys. The tournament will be back in San Diego in FEB 2006 (bigger and better) IF you can travel to it do it!! I would not be suprised if several of the players relocate to SO-CAL

Joshka: Anyone know who won the prize for the hardest fought game?

Joshka: <SBC> Thanks for your info on Savereide, I do remember her from past Chess Life magazines in the '80's. Having held the title for quite awhile, one would think there would be more info on her to research. Anyway, any info on the gal, I believe, a native Russian named Inna Izrailov who took the title from Diane in 1986? I believe she had the title for that one year only?
Dec-07-04  pazzed paun: the prizes are listed on the official website www.uschesschampionship.com you can link to it from the week in chess site. BENT LARSEN prize of $5000 to Alex Fishbein--- best games 3 way tie--
1] $1000 Zilberstein round 2
2] $1000 Stripunsky round 9
3] 500 each Benjamin and Shulman round 5
Dec-07-04  iron maiden: Chessgames.com, do you plan to put up the rapid tie-break games that decided both U.S. titles?
Dec-10-04  LUIS XAVIER: i will like to play!

tpstar: <LUIS XAVIER> Hello! Welcome to the site! This is a great place to study chess and analyze variations, but there's no way to play here. There are other Websites where you can play for free = ChessGames.com Help Good Luck!
Dec-28-04  pazzed paun: LUIS XAVIER: Do you want to play in the U.S. championships in FEB 2006? Come to SAN DIEGO then and maybe a special U.S. versus MEXICO match can be arranged! The 2006 event will be even bigger and better!
Jan-12-05  COTORRO: excellent site
Nov-06-05  rgummadi95: This is way not better then runescape.
Nov-06-05  rgummadi95: Well you are scary
Nov-28-22  Ninas Husband: As Chicago once sang, "Does anyone really know what year it is?" :)
