| Sep-16-07 | | Mameluk: It is a pity this tournament lost all attention just because few weakies started to play in Mexico. All last round resultative games are worth replaying, mainly the miniature Laznicka-Ponomariov. Congratulations to Movsesian for winning his second strong tournament this year, even if this was not much deserving. Ponomariov played solid and won last game in style (or home prep?) Akopian played well whole tournament, but in the last round, he played that older version of Marshall against Shirov:) and then went completely nuts. Navara plays well again and combative chess of course. He was lucky to beat Timman in drawish endgame and terrible time-trouble, but then gave a full point to Movsesian with a hot candidate for blunder of the year. At least a few rating points to good. Shirov was very entertaining and recovered from a bad start with great play, losing rating still. Laznicka is still not great in closed tournaments but victory over Shirov with black is fantastic. Timman was outsider and was glad the tournament is not longer. Korchnoi was nearly always on defensive side, sometimes he held and sometimes not. A great tournament overall and let´s hope for next one in next year from Pavel Matocha and co. |
