Sunway Sitges Open (2016)

The 3rd Sunway Sitges Open (Group A) was a 175-player 9-round Swiss tournament held at Hotel Sunway Playa Golf & Spa in Sitges (near Barcelona), Spain, 16-23 December 2016, with a double round on 17 December. Time control: 90 minutes for the first 40 moves then 30 more minutes to finish the game, with 30 seconds added per move from move 1. Prize fund: 10,350 euros, with 2,000 euros + trophy to the winner. Rounds 1, 3-8 started at 4:30 pm, Round 2 at 9:30 am, Round 9 at 4 pm local time. Tournament director: Francesc Gonzalez Alonso. Chief arbiter: Jordi Chalmeta Ugas. Number of games played: 741 (of which 245 were made available).

Evgeny Romanov won on Buchholz tiebreak ahead of Edouard (2nd), Lopez Martinez (3rd) and Kamsky (4th), all four with 7/9.
