Reykjavik Open (1990)

The 14th Reykjavik Open was an 11-round Swiss held in the new Faxafen Chess Center in Reykjavik, Iceland, 17-29 March 1990, right after the Reykjavik Summit (1990). Main sponsor: Búnaðarbanki Íslands. The 72-player field included about 20 GMs. Time control: 120 minutes for the first 40 moves followed by 60 more minutes for the next 20 moves, the game to be adjourned (if necessary) after not more than 6 hours. Rounds started at 5 pm, but 2 pm in weekends. Prize fund: 30,000 USD. First prize: 9000 USD. Chief arbiter: Arnold Eikrem. Schedule:
