Aug-13-10  Birthday Boy: Go Anna Muzychuk!!
Aug-14-10  dumbgai: Agreed, I hope Anna wins it since this is her last chance to compete in juniors.

HeMateMe: I don't recognize any names here. I guess the strongest female teens (yifan, Koneru) are already competing soley against adults.

alexmagnus: @HeHateMe: Koneru is too old :). And Yifan hasn't played junior tournanaments since she was like 13.
Aug-14-10  percyblakeney: Muzychuk is #8 among the women (and was top five last year), so she is a very strong player for a junior event. Going by the results it also seems as if she is much too strong for this field.
Aug-14-10  percyblakeney: Deysi Estela Cori Tello is the second highest rated player here, 124 points behind Muzychuk.
Aug-14-10  DeltaHawk: 1990 the magic birthyear!
Aug-14-10  niemzo: Hou played in the open section two years ago. She made one of her gm norms there and was tied for 3rd.
Aug-14-10  percyblakeney: Cori Tello had four losses in a row in round 3-6, surprising for a clear second seed. None of them came against the first seed, but against opponents rated several hundred points below her.
Aug-15-10  percyblakeney: Maybe Cori Tello was sick or something when she lost all those games in a row, today she won against Muzychuk and suddenly it is wide open before the last round, with Girya and Muzychuk on 10/12 and Padmini on 9.5.
Aug-15-10  notyetagm: Wow, **huge** result in Round 12: Muzychuk lost and Girya won, so they are now tied with one round to go.

S Guramishvili vs O Girya, 2010

D E Cori Tello vs A Muzychuk, 2010

And they drew their head-to-head encounter:

O Girya vs A Muzychuk, 2010

Aug-15-10  percyblakeney: Muzychuk and Girya both face opponents in the 2100's in the last round. Third placed Padmini is less lucky with the draw and plays Cori Tello who can take her seventh win in a row.
Aug-15-10  notyetagm: Wow, what a streaky player!!!

World Junior Championship (Girls) (2010)/Deysi Estela Cori Tello

Wins first two games, then loses 4 games in a row, then wins 6(!!!) games in a row.

Reminiscent of Gupta winning the title in 2008 by going 5/5(!) in his last 5 games. But here Cori's 4-game losing streak kills her chance of winning the title, even though she may well end by going 7/7(!!!!!!!) in her last 7 games.

Aug-15-10  Cercatore: Poor Anna... she lost today at last game :(
Aug-15-10  notyetagm: <Cercatore: Poor Anna... she lost today at last game :(>

Well, cheer up.

She has a White game tomorrow against a **much** lower-rated opponent **and** she probably wins all tie-breaks because she led the tournament most if not all of the way.

So all A.Muzychuk has to do is win a White game against a much weaker opponent and she wins the World Junior Championship (Girls) (2010).

Who could ask for more than that? :-)

Aug-16-10  Don Cossacks: Go Anna and Olga!
Aug-16-10  dumbgai: Good job by Andrenko holding off the higher-rated Girya. In fact Andrenko was better for most of the game and was the one going for the win at the end.
