Aug-19-07  pawnofdoom: Too bad Bacrot isn't playing. He probably has other tournaments he has to go to. I put my money on Bauer, Tkachiev, and Sokolov, because they're highest rated, and those three happen to all be in the top four at the moment. And it's also nice to see Lagrave playing. Doing great for a 16-year-old.
Aug-19-07  percyblakeney: http://www.europe-echecs.com/ seems to have better coverage than the official site.
Aug-20-07  Wilson H. L.: Vachier-Lagrave is doing very well, good to see this youngster tying for 1st place!

By the way there's two Fontaine vs Tkachiev, I suppose it's an error.

Aug-23-07  Youjoin: What a game of Vachier-Lagrave on the 10th round against Fontaine! A mating net with an underpromotion

Aug-24-07  Youjoin: Vachier-Lagrave and Tkachiev drew their games today, so I suppose that Vachier-Lagrave is the new France champion, winning 5 games out 11.
Aug-24-07  percyblakeney: <I suppose that Vachier-Lagrave is the new France champion>

I haven't seen anything about what tiebreak system they are using, Tkachiev and Vachier-Lagrave are even, Tkachiev won the game between them, while Vachier-Lagrave won more games.

Aug-24-07  percyblakeney: My guess is that there will be a rapid tiebreak match between Tkachiev and Vachier-Lagrave tomorrow, in 2003 Bacrot won the title in a rapid playoff:

sisyphus: Meanwhile, in the Women's Championship Milliet beat Collas in the last round, putting them in a tie for first with 8.5/11.

sisyphus: The official site says (pardon my translation from French) playoffs on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Central European Summer time. Two games at 15' + 5"; if necessary, two games at 5'+5"; if necessary, another two games at 5'+5". If that doesn't produce a winner, there's one game at 5'+5". No description of whether there's draw odds or what.
Aug-25-07  percyblakeney: Tkachiev won the European Championship in a rapid tiebreak, maybe Vachier-Lagrave will regret taking that 7 move draw in the last round.
